Stamford police rescue child who fell off fishing pier

“On arrival patrol officers observed a child approximately 70 feet out in the water with his head just above the water, holding on to pylon of the fishing pier,” police posted on Facebook.

Officers Rosa and Montanaro seeing the child’s arms shaking as he was holding on to the pylon so they jumped the four-foot fence off the pier into the water.

 

Stamford police investigate two shootings

STAMFORD — Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate two shootings, one that sent a man to the hospital and another that left a home riddled with bullets.

“We are extremely proud of the actions of Officer Terrell and his quick thinking, which may well have saved the life of the victim,” the Stamford Police Department said in a release.

Less than an hour later, police responded to Seaside Avenue on multiple reports of guns shots.

 

Two displaced after Stamford fire

Fire units from three different fire stations in Stamford responded to a condominium unit on Connecticut Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. for a reported fire, a release from the Stamford Fire Department said. After searching the building for occupants, the release said the firefighters found that the two who lived in the condo had already left the building.

 

Squantz Pond at capacity, closed to new vehicles

The closure to new vehicles comes less than a day after the Squantz Pond swimming area was reopened by DEEP Friday afternoon, after being closed for the past week due to unsafe levels of bacteria.

The department found unsafe levels of so-called “indicator” bacteria last Friday morning as part of the weekly water-quality test the state performs in 23 state park swim areas.

Felony convictions get Stamford man only a year in jail

STAMFORD-A city man convicted of credit “card cracking” will only do an extra year in prison despite pleading to three serious felonies at the Stamford courthouse last week.

Che McCoy, 25, of Courtland Avenue who was represented by John Thygerson of Norwalk, pleaded guilty to single counts of first-degree larceny, first-degree forgery and possession of a pistol without a permit.

Stamford man immediately released after being extradited to New York City

Justin Velez, 25, was picked up by Stamford police at his Hall Place home at 6 a.m. Wednesday because they were told by the Brooklyn Warrant Squad he was wanted on drug charges and was connected to an assault in Brooklyn, Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said.

When authorities determined his prints did not match those taken earlier, he was immediately released and returned home to Stamford.

 

“Career criminal” caught breaking into a van in Stamford

STAMFORD-A city man cinched his 36th arrest on Thursday, this time for stealing tools out of a van while leaving his cell phone and car at the scene when police showed up Johnnie-on-the-spot to investigate the early morning burglary call.

Sgt. Chris Broems said dispatch sent police officers to the corner of Myrtle Avenue and William Street where an anonymous caller reported a car burglary in progress.

WESTCHESTER-A Ozone Park truck driver has been slapped with a felony charge for striking a killing a tow truck driver from Stamford and fleeing the crash last December.

Mid-Hudson News.Com reported that state investigators determined that Mangano did not stop and that he even drove past the accident scene after police and an ambulance crew had arrived before leaving the area.
