Royal Oak commissioners vote to increase parking rates

Visitors to Royal Oak will be paying more to park their vehicles.The City Commission on Monday night approved recommended parking rate hikes from the city's Downtown Development Authority, which oversees the city's parking policies.Part of the DDA's recommendation, based on a study by Rich & Associates, calls for parking rates to be lower at the outlying areas of the downtown and highest in the center of the district.

 

Strawberries are in season in Southeast Michigan

The short and sweet strawberry season has arrived in Southeast Michigan. In Oakland County, the U-Pick farm, Middleton Berry Farm of Ortonville plans to be open for limited picking, June 14, according to the farm's Facebook page.

 

Southfield woman reported missing, endangered

The Southfield Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding a woman whose family says has been missing for weeks.Kyla Shay Bell, 43, was last in contact with family or friends at around 2 a.m. on May 25 when she left Teresa's Place, a restaurant at 14033 W. McNichols in Detroit, and drove to an address near the 18000 block of Westmoreland in Detroit, traveling along Six Mile Road.

 

Woman arrested after Lake Orion home invasion

A 48-year-old Florida woman was arrested after two home invasions in Lake Orion. Police were summoned to Axford Street at 6:18 p.m. Saturday, June 9, after the daughter of a homeowner found her mother's front door open. Inside was a blond woman with a black dress, who had taken some clothing and food, Lake Orion police reported.

 

Wixom police identify boy killed by hit-and-run driver Monday, still searching for driver

Wixom police have identifed 14-year-old Justin Lee, a Wixom resident, as the boy killed by a hit-and-run driver Monday night. Lee, a student at Walled Lake Western High School, was riding his bike along Potter Road, just east of Wixom Road, around 5:40 p.

A Waterford senior was recently selected as one of the STEM Premier Top 100 students for 2018. Isabelle Lilienthal, an 18-year-old graduate from the Great Lakes Cyber Academy, was chosen from more than 170,000 students from over 19,000 different high schools for the honor.

 

Lyft driver facing rape charges involving clients in Pontiac

A Lyft driver charged with raping two customers is bound over to Oakland Circuit Court for trial.Raheel Bin Hanif, 24 of Waterford was arraigned before Judge Hala Jarbou on June 11. He faces first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges for an alleged incident in April, and first-degree and third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges for an alleged incident in December, both in Pontiac.

 

Youth recreation millage levied in Pontiac, Michigan School for the Arts to be new center

Just three months ago, it seemed unlikely that Pontiac would levy its youth recreation millage due to a disagreement over where to hold programming. A last minute deal however, to lease the Michigan School for the Arts building at 825 Golf Dr., was approved by Pontiac City Council on Friday, June 8.
