Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township to dedicate tribute on July 31

The Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township will hold a dedication ceremony for a monument that will honor all branches of the military. The dedication will take place at 7:30 p.m. on July 31 at the site, 5236 Adams Road in Oakland Township. Frank Beckmann of WJR Radio will serve as master of ceremonies.

 

Pontiac seniors see scholarships, full ride to Oakland University, at Night of the Stars

When Cameron Clark walks into Oakland University this fall to start his college career, he'll be doing it with a full-ride scholarship from the Clarence Phillips Ascend Foundation. Clark, 18 and a graduate of the Pontiac Academy for Excellence, is one of 12 students who received scholarships during the foundation's fourth annual Night of the Stars event.

GM Excutive Steven Kiefer to be honored for efforts to end distracted driving

Steven Kiefer, senior vice president of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors, will be honored with the Distinguished Service Citation by The Automotive Hall of Fame. The organization is hosting an Induction and Awards gala, July 19 in Detroit.Ramzi Hermiz, chairman of the Automotive Hall of Fame and president and CEO of Shiloh Industries, made the announcement.

 

Man shot multiple times outside Pontiac house

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a Pontiac man, found injured outside a home in the 600 block of DeSoto Place in Pontiac early Sunday morning.The 27-year-old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his arms and was transported by deputies to McLaren-Oakland Hospital, the sheriff's office said.

 

Pontiac woman jailed, suspected of stealing 2 vehicles

An 18-year-old Pontiac woman was taken to jail Saturday, suspected of stealing a truck from St. Clair Shores. She also had a felony warrant from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office for another vehicle theft case.The arrest happened at around 3 p.m. after deputies were called to the 100 block of N.

 

Man reports being chased in golf cart by angry neighbor driving pickup truck

A 22-year-old Dexter man visiting friends in Highland reported an altercation with a man who he said intentionally drove into a golf cart they were riding in and then chased after them in his pickup truck Saturday evening.According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim said he was driving some friends in the golf cart along Lakeview Street when the man started yelling at them.

20 graduating Oak Park High School band seniors offered $2.1M in scholarships

Twenty graduating band members of Oak Park High School have been offered a total of $2.1 million in scholarships to choose from.The seniors earned the scholarships as members of the Oak Park Marching Legion, the school district's band.School officials said the scholarships were offered from nearly a dozen out-of-state colleges and universities, including Arkansas Pine Bluff, Miles College in Alabama, Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, Central State University in Ohio and Kentucky State University.
