Royal Oak readies for return of downtown summer concerts

Downtown Royal Oak will soon be alive with the sounds of musicians performing everything from rock and soul to Americana, pop tunes and funk.Organized by the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts, the Summer Concert series starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 5 and continues each Thursday through Aug.

 

Miguel Ibarra-Cerda charged in hit-and-run death of 14-year-old

Miguel Ibarra-Cerda, 21, has been charged in the hit-and-run death of Justin Lee, 14. Cerda was arraigned via video at 52-1 District Court in Novi on Thursday on two charges including: reckless driving causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death, which are both 15-year felonies.

Macomb County motorcyclist killed in Rochester Hills crash

A 63-year-old Warren woman is dead after her motorcycle was struck by a car on M-59 late Wednesday evening. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of M-59 just east of John R Road at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the center lane when a 2012 Hyundai Accent driven by a 21-year-old Sterling Heights woman changed lanes and struck the Harley.

 

Driver charged in death of Oakland University student

One young man is dead, and now another one is charged with a potential 15-year felony. The crash occurred early Sunday morning, shortly after the pair had left work at an area restaurant.

 

Rochester Hills Festival of the Hills to feature family friendly activities, fireworks show

The Rochester Hills Festival of the Hills celebration is set for Wednesday, June 27. The year's event begins at 6 p.m. with family games and live entertainment. Star EMS graduates 8 from pilot program in Pontiac

Star EMS recently announced the graduation of eight students from its first-ever emergency medical technician apprenticeship program in Pontiac.The tuition-free, accelerated path toward certification as an EMT wrapped up June 5, and a graduation ceremony was held June 8 at Pontiac's Little ArtT heater.

 

Debt in Pontiac School District drops to $11M as enrollment improves

In 2014, Pontiac School District was saddled with a $51 million deficit. Today that number stands at about $11 million. Salary concessions made by educators are slowly returning, chronic absenteeism in students is down and a five-year, $35 million sinking fund millage is rehabilitating the district's aging buildings.
