Troy council votes in support of placing regional transit tax on ballot

The Troy City Council narrowly approved a resolution in support of placing the Regional Transit Authority tax proposal on the Nov. 6 ballot.The Troy council voted 4-3 June 4 in favor of the resolution, introduced by Councilman David Hamilton.Joining Hamilton in the majority were Mayor Dane Slater and council members Ellen Hodorek and Edna Abrahim.

 

Westbound I-696 closed for third consecutive weekend in Oakland County

Attention Oakland County motorists, more construction is on the way. As part of a $12 million, four-segment, resurfacing project along I-696, which is scheduled for completion in November, westbound lanes between Dequindre and Telegraph will closed for a third consecutive weekend from 9 p.

 

Vice President Mike Pence touts tax cuts at Rochester construction site

Vice President Mike Pence said Rochester, Michigan, is "rolling." Pence visited Oakland County on Friday touting tax cuts and how it has benefited businesses like Frank Rewold and Sons, a local construction company based in Rochester. Pence toured the 100-year-old, four-generation company's new, $12 million headquarters, which is currently under construction.

Royal Oak commissioner calls for more park funding, city budget approval delayed

Royal Oak City Commissioner Melanie Macey regrets that her call for more funding for park maintenance temporarily derailed approval of the city budget this week, but not for speaking out about the need.The City Commission is set to meet at a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday to pass a budget before the July 1 deadline, which is expected to happen.

 

Rochester Rattlesnake Run to be hosted along Paint Creek Trail

The Rattlesnake Family Fun Run and 5K, hosted by Race for Michigan Nature and the Michigan Nature Association, is set for June 21. The 5K will promote efforts to preserve habitat for the Eastern massasauga rattlesnake. The course will begin at Rochester Municipal Park and head northwest along the Paint Creek Trail.

Jury deliberations began Friday afternoon to decide if a Detroit man is responsible for the murder of Diana Pesserl of West Bloomfield, shot to death and left in a car set on fire at a former schoolyard on Dec. 9, 2016.DeSean Smith, 20, faces up to life in prison if convicted.For assistant prosecutor Kelly Collins, the answer is clear: Despite a "convenient and strategic" alibi, which changed as he learned what police knew, "all roads lead to DeSean Smith," she said Friday morning, in her closing statement in Oakland Circuit Court.
