Walsh’s top lieutenants in their upcoming extortion trial blasted federal prosecutors for continuing to pursue charges against their clients while putting off “the inevitable end of this unjust prosecution.”In a blistering motion filed yesterday, lawyers for Kenneth Brissette and Timothy Sullivan said federal prosecutors are trying to “cobble together a viable case” and should drop the charges.

 

Teen nabbed after stabbing at JP T stop

A 17-year-old was arrested by Transit Police yesterday after allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old at the MBTA’s Green Street station in Jamaica Plain.Transit cops responded to the stabbing on the Orange Line platform about 2:30 p.m., Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said.The suspect’s name was not released because of their age.The victim, whose name was not released last night, was rushed to the hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening stab wound, Sullivan said.

Prisoners’ rights group nears deal on hepatitis C tests

Bay State convicts could soon have better access to hepatitis C tests and treatments after a prisoners’ rights group reached a legal settlement with the Department of Correction.“The situation is very dire. If we have any chance to improve it, we will all benefit,” said Urszula Masny-Latos, executive director of the National Lawyers Guild. “People who are in prison, after their sentence, they leave and re-enter their communities, where hepatitis C can be spread.”

 

Kalter: Boston cop plans plea for kidney donation to father John Nucci

Boston cops have issued a public plea for potential kidney donors in an effort to help former City Councilor John Nucci, the father of a Hub officer.“Last week, the Boston Police Department learned that the father of one our own, former city councilor John Nucci (father of BPD officer Mike Nucci), is suffering from Polycystic Kidney Disease and is in need of a kidney transplant,” the department wrote in a post on its news blog.

Man dies from gas poisoning

METHUEN — A retired firefighter was killed and his wife was sickened with carbon monoxide poisoning after he fired up two gas-powered generators in the basement of his Pelham Street home without proper ventilation, officials said.Methuen cops and firefighters responding to a report of possible carbon monoxide poisoning at 8:49 a.m. yesterday were met by a 62-year-old woman who reported waking up not feeling well and finding her husband, Joe Sholik, unresponsive on a couch in another room, Deputy Fire Chief Dan Donahue said.
