3 join Redmond School Board

Three new members of the Redmond School District board of directors were sworn in to office Wednesday evening.Newcomers Rick Bailey, Ron Munkres and Lisa Klemp were seated in the positions they won in the May election.

• Molly Nelson has recently joined Step & Spine Physical Therapy in Sisters and Redmond. Nelson earned her doctorate of physical therapy from The College of Saint Scholastica in Minnesota. Since moving to Central Oregon in 2007, she has provided physical therapy services at Rebound Physical Therapy and St. Charles Bend.

 

Bike lock prompts Bend library noon time scare

A metal bike lock shaped like a grenade prompted Bend police to evacuate the Deschutes County library on Wall Street and close off a square block for a half hour today.The block between Louisiana and Kansas avenues along with the library was closed between 11:40 a. m. and 12:10 p. m.A woman found the lock in bushes on the building west side and moved it to an outside trash can, then reported the find to Bend police.

 

Box Springs Fire in mop-up stage; forecast lightning a no-show

The Box Springs Fire, which started Saturday in Jefferson County, and grew to nearly 500 acres last night, has been 50 percent contained and has shown no signs of growth, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.The forecasted lightning in the area did not materialize last night, making containment efforts easier. Smoke in the area has subsided. Department of Forestry, private contractors and local U.S.

Teen punched and robbed

A 17-year-old was punched in the face and robbed by another teen whom he had arranged to meet to sell an iPod on Tuesday, according to Bend Police.The victim, a Redmond resident who was house-sitting in Bend, had placed an ad on Craigslist.

 

Underpass detour

The Third Street underpass will be closed from 7 p. m. to 7 a. m. nightly throughout August as city crews work to correct frequent flooding.
