River shuttle service limited

Cascades East Transit’s Ride the River shuttle will have limited service today and Sunday due to the Deschutes Dash Weekend Sports Festival.The shuttle will not run in the mornings but will run starting at 1:35 p. m.

Oregon State Police temporarily closed northbound U. S. Highway 97 at the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge while investigating an apparent suicide Friday afternoon.A man jumped from the bridge over Crooked River Gorge four miles north of Terrebonne at 2:49 p. m., according to OSP Lt.

 

City Club forum to discuss drones

The City Club of Central Oregon will host a forum to discuss drones Thursday. The forum, “The Evolution from Battleground to Backyard," will be held at St. Charles Bend from 11:30 a. m. to 1 p. m.

 

Small fires burn in Crook County

Firefighters in Crook County responded to two small brush fires Friday afternoon.The first was close to Prineville in the afternoon, said Casey Kump, fire marshal for Crook County Fire and Rescue. The fire burned about half an acre between Highway 126 and Rim Rock Road, just west of Meadow Lakes Golf Course. The second fire at 2:45 p.m.

 

Cougar shot, killed in Redmond

A cougar seen sitting in a tree at a home in Redmond was shot and killed by a resident Friday morning, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies were called to 7525 Nortwest Way at 9:20 a. m., shortly after the animal had been killed. The homeowner told deputies she was outside with her dog and 5-year-old child when the dog began barking under a juniper tree.

 

Unusual antlers; Bucks in velvet caught munching in the bush

What's this? A jogger caught a pair of bucks that were munching bushes and flowers in southwest Bend off guard Friday afternoon. But the velvety antlers on the deer were undoubtedly far more intriguing.

Bend industrial properties sold

Fratzke Commercial Real Estate Advisors Inc. announced two separate sales of industrial property in Bend that totaled more than 100,000 square feet and about $7.5 million combined.Glenwood Industrial Park, comprised of two buildings on Southeast Glenwood Drive, sold Thursday for $3.96 million, according to Brian Fratzke, principal broker. And the five-building East Bend Plaza, located at Southeast Wilson Avenue and Southeast Ninth Street, sold for nearly $3.5 million Friday.

 

Moss formally retires from BOTC

Patricia Moss, the former CEO and president of Cascade Bancorp and Bank of the Cascades, has now made her retirement official, the company announced Wednesday.Moss — who joined Bank of the Cascades in 1977, the year it was founded — helped build it into a regional financial institution and guided it through the financial crisis and recession.
