Police looking for smash and grab burglar in Stamford

Lt. Tom Barcello said that police have found video tape surveillance of the suspect and are working on identifying the thief.

The smash-and-grab burglaries occurred at Layla’s Falafel, 926 High Ridge Road; Yogurberry, 900 High Ridge Road; Allure Florist, 123 High Ridge Road; Great Nails Spa, 111 High Ridge Road; and Massage Envy, 1410 High Ridge Road.

Barcello said that someone crashed through a roll gate door and got into Razor’s Auto Body, located at 914 East Main Street.

 

Man stabbed on violent street corner in Stamford

STAMFORD-A city man stabbed multiple times on a West Side street corner Tuesday afternoon is recovering in Stamford Hospital’s intensive care unit, police say.

Earlier this year at the end of March, a 28-year-old man suffered three gunshot wounds after being struck by two bullets while in close proximity to the corner.

Earlier this week, Jonathan Catchings, 29, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for shooting and killing Raymond “Tank” Hayward, near the same corner in May 2011.

 

Car rolls, driver flees and police pursue in Stamford

Witnesses told police that a black male wearing a red leather jacket got out of the car and told them that he was going to report the car stolen before fleeing the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the crash and a wrecker quickly pulled the vehicle out of the driveway.

 

Police working on murder charge for man whose wife was found dead in Glenbrook

After four days on the run last week, Gomez Ruano was taken into custody in Brooklyn on Friday afternoon after abandoning his six-year-old daughter Daisy in a mid-town bus depot in Manhattan Monday morning.

Lt. Thomas Barcello said Gomez Ruano is now being held by New York State as a fugitive from justice warrant, resulting from the Stamford police department’s filing of a felony child endangerment charge against him.

Barcello said the couple’s six-year-old daughter remains in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

 

Hundreds mourn slain Stamford man at funeral mass

STAMFORD — Hundreds of mourners gathered Wednesday at a funeral service for Joseph “Joey” Comunale, the 26-year-old killed after a night of partying in Manhattan, who loved ones remembered as fun, generous and especially devoted to his friends.

“Who in this room got a laugh out of Joey, raise your hand,” said Todd Greene, Comunale’s Hofstra University roommate, addressing mourners at St.

 

City modifies plan for South End traffic improvement

“The significant difference between the plan presented at the meeting with off-street parking and the final plan is the redesigned parking as curbside parking in the same vicinity,” the city said in a press release.

The city is required to inform citizens about the change and make the design plans available for review at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard, 7th floor, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

 

Officials serve meal at Stamford homeless shelter

STAMFORD — A cafeteria filled with men who are clients of a city homeless shelter were served dinner last week by Stamford’s Democratic delegation to promote awareness of hunger and homelessness leading up to Thanksgiving.

Roosevelt Mitchell, 53, who has lived at the Pacific House homeless shelter for four years, has been the frequent recipient of meals provided by volunteers and charitable groups.

The 2016 Report on Homeless in Connecticut, conducted by the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, found 287 homeless people in Stamford and Greenwich, living in shelters, emergency hous

 

Stamford police investigate string of commercial break-ins

STAMFORD — A burglar was busy overnight crashing through the windows of at least five businesses on High Ridge Road.

Lt. Tom Barcello said police officers are meeting with business owners Tuesday morning as they open their stores and find signs of break-ins.

The first business to report a burglary was Allure Bridal, 123 High Ridge Road, about 2:30 a.m.

Barcello said there were four other commercial properties that reported similar break-ins.

 

Report: Suspects in killing of Stamford man waive court appearance

James Rackover, 25, and Lawrence Dilione, 28, have each been charged with concealment of a human corpse, tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution in the death of 26-year-old Joseph “Joey” Comunale.

The New York District’s Attorney’s office would not provide any details and the defense attorneys did not return calls seeking comment.

The Westhill High School graduate was stabbed 15 times in the chest before his corpse was burned and buried in a shallow makeshift grave in a New Jersey shore town, police said.

Man charged with fighting with cop after setting leaf fire

Police were called to Custer Street at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday by a security guard who reported that a man had just started a fire in a leaf pile.

[...] the man took an aggressive fighting stance against the police officer while waving the rod again.

Joseph, of Warren Street, was charged with reckless burning, simple trespass, assault on a police officer and carrying a dangerous weapon and was held in lieu of a $50,000 court appearance bond.
