STAMFORD — A New Haven man, who police say is following in his father’s shady footsteps, has been charged with ripping off three city residents for shoddy auto repairs.

Bobby Megel, 28, faces several charges of larceny, illegal sales without a tax receipt and operating a repair shop without a license.

Megel’s father Jimmy, 44, also of New Haven, is serving a 10-year prison sentence in part for taking as much as $138,000 from another 88-year-old Stamford man to fix his 1991 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon back in 2013.

Defense attorney Daniel Ford said his client has taken advantage of every program offered to him while in prison.

Co-defendant James Lewis, 26, who was identified as the gunman during the Star Grocery holdup on July 8, 2013, accepted a plea agreement in August on an armed robbery charge and was sentenced to six year in jail.

STAMFORD — Judith Martin, the wife of Mayor David Martin and an educator in the city’s public schools, died Thursday following a battle with cancer.

Martin was also executive director of Starfish Connection, a nonprofit she founded with her husband that provides long-term academic support for students from low-income families.

Starfish mentors students over 10 years, from third grade until they graduate high school.

Before becoming a teacher, Martin spent 20 years working in strategic planning, human resources and marketing for companies including Pitney Bowes and ConRail.

The pharmacist told her the insurance company refused to pay for the pills because someone using her maiden name filled a prescription for pain medication at the Stamford Hospital Emergency Room just two days before.

STAMFORD-A two-day trial ended early Wednesday afternoon after a jury deliberated for 10 minutes and convicted a Stamford man of drug dealing and biting a police officer during his arrest 14 months ago.

Anthony McCandies, 30, of Stillwater Avenue was found guilty by a jury of three men and three women of being in possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell, biting one police officer and assaulting another.

STAMFORD-Six juvenile boys and girls were given summonses for misbehaving at the Stamford Town Center mall and one, an 11-year-old boy, was charged with assault for spitting in the face of a security guard, police said.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said officers were called to the mall at about 5:45 Tuesday after a group of as many as 10 kids, were being loud and disruptive in the mall and then became disrespectful and started swearing at security guards trying to get them out of the complex.

Police were called to Atlantic Street near Woodland Avenue at about 7:37 p.m. where a Hispanic man had been injured during a robbery attempt.
