Police went to Bridgeport to execute search warrants suspects’ homes and a short while after serving the warrants, Bridgeport police spotted one of the suspects and apprehended him after a brief foot chase, Barcello said.

Police arrested Bridgeport resident Lou Geneis, 34, and charged him with criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit and first-degree rckeless endangerment, Lt. Tom Barcello said. After the gunman across the street ran out of bullets and the 32-year-old man standing next to Geneis crumpled to the ground after being wounded in the leg and groin, police say Geneis glared at the gunman for a second or two before pulling a pistol from his waistband and returned fire.

 

Martin extends Stamford snow emergency until 7 a.m. Friday

Hazardous road conditions still exist and residents are urged to use caution while driving and walking.

There were several power outages reported affecting three homes, 25 motor vehicle accidents occurred with four minor injuries, and there were 17 disabled vehicles that required assistance.

Operations crews, comprised of approximately 70 individuals from Highways, Facilities, Parks, etc. will continue to respond to the winter storm event utilizing more than 50 plows and other equipment.

 

Stamford schools on two-hour delay Friday

STAMFORD — Public schools will open two hours late on Friday as crews continue to clear city roadways.

Schools in Stamford and across Fairfield County closed Thursday as more than a foot of snow blanketed the region and caused hundreds of minor car accidents.

Buses may also be running slower than usual Friday, according to the district.

 

Stamfordites brave the snow for food, shoveling

STAMFORD — Winds are gusting and snow has blanketed the region, but that has not stopped businesses from opening and residents from venturing outdoors into the season’s biggest snowstorm to date.

“The plough trucks should be coming around soon,” said Nick Aivalis, who owns the building at 1410 Summer St.

 

Threatening message sparks bomb scare at Stamford school

STAMFORD — A threatening message scribbled on a bathroom door sparked a bomb scare Wednesday at Scofield Magnet Middle School.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said Principal Clayton Scott called police just before 7 a.m. to report the threat found by the janitor.

“I’m going to bomb this (expletive),” was written on the back of the door, according to Blanc.

Blanc said K-9 Doby with his handler, Officer Lou Scarano, searched the school but nothing suspicious was found.

Blanc said the person who wrote the message has not been identified.

Stamford bovines enjoy snow

Stamford — The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is closed due to the snowstorm, but its bovines appear to be enjoying the flurry of white stuff.

Retired Stamford schools janitor, 74, granted diversionary program for bank robbery

On Wednesday morning, Judge Richard Comerford at the Stamford courthouse granted Genovese participation in a diversionary program for people with mental health issues that will allow a second-degree robbery charge lodged against him to be wiped away.

For the next 36-months, Genovese will be required to continue mental health counseling and take his medications while steering well clear of People’s Bank on Shippan Avenue.

Cops: NY man sold cocaine outside Stamford bar

Capt. Richard Conklin said officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad received a tip that a man from New York known as “JT” was selling cocaine out of a black Mercedes-Benz next to Hudson Grille on Bedford Street.

Police reached out to law enforcement officers in Westchester County and determined that the man was Jason Tillis, 36, of Yonkers, N.Y. Conklin said Stamford police were also informed that Tillis has two prior narcotics convictions in Westchester.
