STAMFORD — As the drought plaguing the region inches toward improvement, Stamford reservoirs remain thirsty, with capacity hovering far below the historic average.
A 30-month stretch of below-average rainfall, beginning in June 2014, has decimated reservoir and ground water levels, making this the state’s worst drought in more than 50 years.
“In western Connecticut, minor reductions in areas of severe drought and extreme drought were made in response to short-term improvements in stream-flow conditions and soil moisture,” according to the Drought Monitor.
