Police: Danbury man punched pregnant driver

BREWSTER — A Danbury man is in the custody of New York State Police after he struck a pregnant woman multiple times, police said. Police said that 35-year-old Allen Bredbenner, of Danbury, punched a pregnant woman with a closed fist in the face and in the stomach as she was driving Thursday. After the alleged attack, the victim drove directly to New York State Police Brewster barracks to turn Bredbenner in, according to police reports. The victim was later transported to Putnam Hospital for evaluation.

 

Norwalk handyman pleads guilty to stealing from Stamford woman

STAMFORD — Two years in jail is not enough for a Norwalk handyman who pleaded guilty to stealing $2,800 worth of checks from an elderly woman, a relative said in court Friday.

Barbara Brackett told Judge Gary White during a hearing at the Stamford courthouse that sentencing Ralph Esposito to 25 months in jail was a “slap on the wrist” for stealing the the checks from her dead 79-year-old aunt.

Brackett said Esposito, who worked for her aunt as a handyman doing odd jobs around her Stamford home, was a repeat offender who made a habit out of stealing from his elderly customers.

 

NY man accused of Stamford train station slashing

STAMFORD — A New York man has been accused of slashing a man’s face during an attempted robbery at the downtown train station.

Eric Carrero, 25, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has been charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree robbery, threatening and breach of peace.

At the arraignment early Friday afternoon, Judge Gary White said the incident was extremely violent and ordered Carrero held in lieu of a $100,000 court appearance bond.

The 22-year-old victim said he had just gotten off a train from New Haven about 11 p.m.

 

Road rage leads to beating on High Ridge in Stamford

STAMFORD-A husband and wife who got cut off by another car while driving down High Ridge Road from North Stamford late Wednesday afternoon were shoved and beaten up by three men after pulling over in a parking lot to settle the matter, police said.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said the couple ended up being cut off by a Honda Accord at about 5:30 p.m. and while at the next traffic light the husband and Accord driver began arguing and yelling at each other.

The same thing happened at the next light, where the husband demanded that the Accord driver apologize to his wife, Pinto said.

 

Stolen in Stamford, car still missing

STAMFORD-The recovery of a stolen car by Narcotics and Organized Crime squad officers Tuesday night prompted a warning by another car owner whose wheels have yet to be found.

Jonathan Saint Victor left his white 2013 Nissan Altima with tinted windows and license plate 611 ZKM running in front of his Ludlow Street home on Dec. 21 at about 8 p.m. Saint Victor said he parked the car and left it running for about 10 minutes and when he went outside to get back in it, the car was gone.

 

Norwalk Gold Rush robber sentenced in Stamford

STAMFORD-A Hartford man who helped rob the Gold Rush jewelry store in Norwalk in September 2016 was sentenced to eight years in jail at the Stamford courthouse Wednesday.

Following his sentence, Donald Outlaw, 29, will have to serve seven years special parole, where any violation of the law can immediately land him back in jail. Judge John Blawie presided over the sentencing, which was the result of a plea agreement, his attorney Daniel Weiner said.

 

Teenager joyriding in stolen car in Stamford

STAMFORD — A city teenager’s failure to use a turn signal led to his arrest for allegedly stealing a car on the East Side Tuesday night.

Capt. Richard Conklin said officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad were patrolling on Custer Street at about 8:15 p.m. when they saw a 1999 Silver Audi A4 make an abrupt turn into the parking lot of 44 Custer Street.

Because the driver did not signal the turn, the officers activated their lights and and pulled behind the vehicle. Both the driver and a passenger exited the car and ran in opposite directions.

 

Best of Stamford friends dead in Norwalk crash

STAMFORD — The two Stamford men killed in a head-on crash in Norwalk late Monday night were the best of friends who were helping each other put their lives back on track. Frankie Peterson, 50, had just picked up Anthony Lewis Johnson, 40, at Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant on Connecticut Avenue, where Johnson had a job washing dishes in the kitchen. Johnson’s father, John Johnson, said the two then headed back up Connecticut Avenue to grab a hamburger, possibly at nearby McDonald’s.

 

Stamford man charged with breaking car windshield

STAMFORD — A homeless man was charged with criminal mischief after police say he slammed a traffic cone into the windshield of a car at a Summer Street office building this week.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said a police officer was stuck in traffic when he noticed an Uber car picking up a woman outside an office building about 5 p.m. Tuesday. Pinto said the officer then saw a man slam an orange traffic cone into the car’s windshield, cracking the glass.

Mohamed Boumazzourn, 30, told the officer the car tried to run him over, Pinto said.

 

Son breaks into Shippan home in Stamford

STAMFORD-A city homeless man was charged with burglary after he allegedly broke into his parents Shippan home early Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said police were called to Fairview Avenue at about 1 p.m. yesterday when a resident heard a window being broken in her home. The 60-year-old woman ran upstairs and hid behind a locked door in her bedroom and called 911.

When police got there they spotted a man ducking behind a Jeep parked in the driveway of the home and took the man into custody.
