Firefighters recognized for saving heart attack victim’s life

STAMFORD-Five firefighters will be recognized next week for saving the life of a heart attack victim at a martial arts class in December.

Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Tripodi said off-duty firefighter Lance Adams was in a martial arts class at the Summer Street martial arts studio on Dec. 19 when a 56-year-old man suffered cardiac arrest.

Adams actuated the 9-1-1 system and began CPR on the man. Minutes later, Stamford Engine Co.

 

Quick arrest made in Stamford stabbing

STAMFORD-City police have charged a man with a “vicious” stabbing on Stephen Street late Tuesday afternoon that has left a man fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.

Recardo Williams, 40, of Custer Street was charged by police with first-degree assault and is being held in lieu of a $75,000 court appearance bond. He will be arraigned on the charge early Thursday afternoon.

Stabbing victim in Stamford fighting for life

STAMFORD-A city man is fighting for his life in Stamford Hospital’s intensive care unit after being stabbed multiple times on Stephen Street late Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the 46-year-old Stamford man remains in critical but stable condition after being stabbed in the upper torso, head and neck area.

Conklin said the man was discovered bleeding while lying on Stephen Street in a heavy rain just after 5 p.m. A Good Samaritan who knows the man’s family, picked the stabbing victim up and rushed him to nearby Stamford Hospital.

 

Stamford man avoids jail for fatal accident

STAMFORD — A 74-year-old man has avoided jail by pleading guilty to an accident that killed a motorcyclist on the city’s West Side in 2014.

William Little, of Mohawk Court, pleaded guilty this week to negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in the death of 48-year-old James McGee.

The plea came moments before defense attorney Phillip Russell and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Mitchell Rubin were going to pick a jury in the case.

 

House fire knocked down in Stamford

STAMFORD - Firefighters knocked down a blaze in a Old Long Ridge Road house on Wednesday morning.

The fire was confined to a rear room of the house.

No word yet on wheter there were any injuries or serious injuries.

According to Stamford property records, the two-story, colonial-style house was built in 1870.

The house has four bedrooms and 2,317 feet of living space.

 

Man pleads guilty to groping school girl in Stamford

STAMFORD-After a day picking jurors to defend against charges that he exposed himself and groped a 14-year-old girl near her bus stop in Stamford, a Bridgeport man admitted his guilt and now faces up to 20 years in jail when he returns to court for sentencing in March.

Humberto Garcia -Palacio, 32, of Orland Street, pleaded guilty to a felony count of risk of injury to a child by having contact with the intimate parts of a child under 16 in a sexual and indecent manner.

 

Crime Stopper tip leads to gun seizure on East Side

STAMFORD-Another Crime and Gun Stoppers tip led to an early morning SWAT raid on an East Side apartment Tuesday that resulted in a teen being arrested following the seizure of a loaded revolver and 35 fraudulent credit cards.

Capt. Richard Conklin said members of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad along with Special Response Team and patrol officers raided a Seaton Avenue apartment near Courtland Avenue at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.

 

More than $10K of tools stolen from Stamford business

STAMFORD — More than $10,000 worth of tree and landscaping equipment was stolen from a Hope Street business over the weekend.

Property Crimes Sgt. Sean Scanlan said the discovery of the theft at Almstead Tree, Shrub and Lawn Care just south of Viaduct Road was reported at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Scanlan said the equipment was left inside two trucks parked on the property.

Scanlan said there were no signs of forced entry to the trucks.

Scanlan said since there have been six reported burglaries of unlocked vehicles in Springdale this month.

 

Stamford man charged with having sex with teen girl

STAMFORD-A city man has been charged with having sex with a 13-year-old city girl.

Sgt. Joseph Kennedy said the arrest stemmed from a family’s complaint about disappearance of young girl in October.

Kennedy said the family got a lead on the 13-year-old girl’s whereabouts and enlisted the help of the brother of the teen she was believed to be with. The parties went to New Jersey and were able to bring the girl safely back home to her family.

The man she was allegedly with, Adelso Santiago-Gomez, 19, of Alden Street was charged with risk of injury to a child.
