Stamford drug arrest ends in reverse

STAMFORD-A city man being taken into custody on drug charges would not go quietly and ended up reversing his car into the front of a police vehicle Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The takedown happened at about 5 p.m. on Valley Road near where a team of Narcotics and Organized Crime officers had set up waiting for Jermaine Scott, 21 to arrive. Capt. Richard Conklin said police had an arrest warrant in hand for Scott for allegedly selling medium amounts of crack cocaine to a undercover officer on three different occasions.

 

Snow falling and roads open in Stamford

STAMFORD-no accidents were reported on the roads in Stamford just before 9 a.m.

Traffic is light on city streets and if the Jones Sausage sell out at a market in nearby Noroton Heights is any indication, people have signaled their intentions of sleeping in this morning.

All roads are passable as city plows were the rounds scraping off up to three inches of snow this morning.

About the only action in Stamford was a water main break at Pacific and Market Streets in the city’s South End at a about 4:30 a.m.

 

Water break could close Long Ridge Road in Stamford

STAMFORD-A water main break on Long Ridge Road could close one of the city’s main north-south arteries Wednesday night.

The break was reported at about 4:40 p.m. at Cold Spring Road. A city sander was dispatched to the scene to throw sand down after the water freezes in order to keep cars moving in the area.

The leak is on or near the southbound lanes of Long Ridge Road. Police are discussing how many lanes should be closed while the Aquarion Water Company fixes the break.

Norwalk man charged in stolen-car crash in Stamford

STAMFORD — A Norwalk man wanted for allegedly crashing a stolen car in Glenbrook last week was picked up at the home of his girlfriend while visiting his newborn child on Wednesday afternoon.

After several hours staking out an Adams Avenue home in the bitter cold, officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad spotted Karon McCollum, 30, walking into the home and after a short struggle took him into custody.

Richard Conklin said state police also have a warrant charging McCollum with using a weapon in October 2017 to rob someone with another Norwalk man in the parking lot of a Denny

 

Fairfield woman killed in pedestrian accident in Stamford identified

STAMFORD-City police on Wednesday identified the female pedestrian struck and killed by a van on Elm Street while walking to work Tuesday morning as Fairfield resident Lynette Wagner, 59.

Sgt. Andrew Gallagher declined to discuss specifics of the case that involve a 38-year-old Stamford man, who was driving the 2016 Dodge Ram van that struck Wagner as he was turning west on North State Street at 7:09 a.m. Tuesday.

 

Pizza delivery driver robbed at gunpoint in Glenbrook

STAMFORD-A pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in front of a Glenbrook home early Wednesday morning, police say.

The 39-year-old Dominos delivery driver was walking up to the front door of a home on Cowan Avenue at 12:32 a.m. when he was approached by three suspects, Lt. Tom Barcello said. One pointed a gun at the driver while another man got into his pockets and took his cell phone.

The pizza the man was carrying in his hands was then taken and the three ran away. Barcello said he did not have a description of the three assailants.

The driver was unharmed.

 

Man stabbed in eye near downtown Stamford

STAMFORD — One man has been taken into custody following a stabbing near downtown Stamford early Tuesday afternoon.

Radio reports from the scene said that a man had been stabbed in the eye on West Washington Avenue at about 12:45 p.m.

Capt. Richard Conklin said that a male suspect is in custody and witnesses are being taken to Stamford Hospital to help with identifying the assailant.

The location, just north of North Street, was the scene of a vandalism call during the early morning. Sgt.

 

Vape canisters part of cache of drugs seized in Stamford

STAMFORD-Six men were arrested over the weekend after police seized more than three pounds of marijuana, nearly $5,000 in cash and 87 vaporizer canisters containing THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the arrests and seizure came after a Narcotics and Organized Crime officers kept an eye out on what turned out to be a marijuana dealing operation on Raymond Street over several weeks.

When the squad’s officers raided the location at about 7 p.m.

 

Henkel employee dies in pedestrian crash in Stamford

STAMFORD — A woman was struck and killed in a crosswalk near the exit 8 ramp of Interstate 95 Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said the woman, in her early 60s, was crossing Elm Street shortly after 7 a.m. while walking to work at the new Henkel headquarters when she was hit. After stepping off the curb, she was struck by 2016 Dodge Sprinter van that was making a right turn from Elm onto North State Street.

Gallagher said the driver stopped his van and has cooperated with the investigation into Stamford’s first pedestrian death of the year.

 

Five cars had windows broken out in Stamford

STAMFORD-City police report that five vehicles were vandalized on West Washington Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Chris Broems said said shortly after 1 a.m., a female resident reported hearing large bangs outside her home, located between Linden Place and North Street, and went out to investigate.

She discovered that her car had one of its windows broken out along with four other vehicles with similar damage.
