Longtime Stamford resident dies after pedestrian crash

STAMFORD — A longtime West Side man who was struck by a car while crossing West Broad Street two weeks ago has died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said that Gennaro Siviglia, 72, of Hanrahan Street, died at Stamford Hospital late Tuesday morning.

Gallagher said Seviglia was better known by his nickname “Jerry” and a number of people have expressed their grief after hearing about his passing to officers on the street.

 

Former Norwalk bus supervisor makes guilty plea to larceny

STAMFORD-A former Norwalk Transit District supervisor was released from the Stamford courthouse on a promise to appear in order to begin looking for the money to repay the bus company after stealing nearly $9,000.

The former supervisor, Otis Weeks, 40, pleaded guilty to first degree larceny on Wednesday and may be sentenced only to probation if he can come up wtih $8,600 when he returns to the courthouse for sentencing on Feb. 15.

 

Stamford Chief Jon Fontneau offers holiday tips for partying

STAMFORD-In this last installment of holiday tips, Stamford police Chief Jon Fontneau offers his advice for partying during the Christmas and New Year’s season.

1. Have something to eat before consuming alcoholic beverages.

2. Eat high protein foods that will stay in your stomach longer and slow the absorption of alcohol into your system.

3. Remember only time will eliminate alcohol from your body.

4. Have a designated driver or a cab to ensure your safe travel home.

5. Know your safe limit; and never drink and drive

 

Light snow causing slick roads, school delays

Light snow is creating slick road conditions and some school delays early Thursday morning.

By 4:30 a.m. between a dusting to a half-inch has fallen across southwestern Connecticut.

While major roads like I-95, I-84 and the Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkways are clear, the shoulders and exit/entrance ramps are snow covered.

Secondary roads are especially slippery.

Bridgeport, Stratford, Naugatuck and Regional School Districts 12 and 16 have a two-hour delay. The delayed opening list is expected to grow.

 

Greenwich woman could face new charges after courtroom antics

STAMFORD — A Greenwich woman with a history of courtroom antics may face new charges after pushing a judicial marshal during her latest appearance.

After getting into a shouting match with a judge and flinging a DVD containing evidence at a prosecutor, Saima Qamar, 48, shoved a marshal while darting out of the Stamford courtroom Wednesday afternoon.

Qamar was handcuffed and then complained of feeling faint and was taken to Stamford Hospital.

The incident followed a wild hearing that included Qamar cursing at Judge John Blawie.

 

Police: Teen with gang ties arrested with gun in Stamford park

STAMFORD — Police say a 17-year-old with gang ties who recently moved here from El Salvador was arrested this week with a gun at Scalzi Park.

Capt. Richard Conklin said members of the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad were alerted to a youth displaying a gun near the park’s tennis courts. Conklin said the teen fled into the woods when officers approached him about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The teen tripped and the gun fell to the ground, Conklin said.

 

Chief Fontneau offers tips on how to keep Stamford homes safe for the holidays

STAMFORD-Police Chief Jon Fontneau has put together tips to keep city residents happy and safe for the holdidays. In this fourth installment the chief discusses what actions residents can take to keep their homes safe from burglars and porch pirates.

1.Always lock your doors and windows, even if you plan to be out for a short amount of time.

2. Leave lights turned on both inside and outside your residence after dark. Criminals do not like bright places.

3. If you plan on being away from home for several days, make arrangements to have someone pick up your mail and newspapers.

 

Man robbed of 3 pair of sneakers in Stamford

STAMFORD-Police are investigating the claims of a Stamford man who reported to police that he was beat up and robbed of three pair of designer sneakers worth $1,000.

Sgt. Chris DiCarlo said police were called out to Summit Ridge Road in North Stamford Sunday night on the report of a 21-year-old man saying he had been robbed.

DiCarlo said the man, who had three pairs Adidas Yeezy Boost sneakers, was looking for a buyer for the shoes on a social media platform.

 

Stamford police find marijuana locked in toolbox

STAMFORD — Police say they found more than seven ounces of marijuana in a locked toolbox during a traffic stop this week.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said officer Christopher Festa saw a car run a traffic light on Summer Street about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Pinto said the driver, Candina Watson, 30, did not have a license.

“Immediately, he smells a very super strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He gets a backup there and they start questioning Candina and the passenger and they admit to having marijuana behind the passenger seat in the car. It was in the toolbox,” Pinto said.

 

Stamford police: Bridgeport man found with unmarked bags of heroin

STAMFORD — Police say a tip led to the discovery of another batch of unmarked heroin similar to the bags found near the bodies of three people who died of overdoses in the city last month.

Capt. Richard Conklin said officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad were alerted last week to a man in his late 20s who was expected to make a heroin delivery at the McDonald’s on East Main Street.

Conklin said officers conducted surveillance of the parking lot and spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description in a Ford Expedition.
