Woman, 69, in critical after pedestrian crash

STAMFORD — Police have identified the elderly Stamford woman struck by a car driven by a teenager Saturday afternoon as Benita Muralles, 69.

She continues to fight for her life while she remains in critical but stable condition in Stamford Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, according to Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, who has not spoken with her doctors.

“Based on our conversation with her family this morning, everyone appears to be hopeful that she will pull through,” Gallagher said.

 

Stamford pedestrian faces life-threatening injuries after crash

STAMFORD --- A Stamford woman in her 70s was seriously injured Saturday after she was hit crossing the street.

Police said a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro hit the woman as she crossed Grove Street at Main Street around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. After the crash, the driver, a 17-year-old Stamford resident, stopped and stayed at the scene.

The woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at Stamford Hospital. Police are working with relatives to confirm the woman’s identity, but say she is around 70.

 

Vehicle hits Stamford apartment building

STAMFORD — According to Stamford Police, a vehicle crashed into an apartment building at 136 Ursula Place early Saturday morning around 3 a.m.

The vehicle hit the side of the building and caused a power outage in the complex.

No further information, including a suspect or any injuries, was available from police. The investigation is still ongoing.

Four years jail for Norwalk man who supplied lethal crack

STAMFORD-A Norwalk man who supplied the crack cocaine that killed another Norwalk man last July was sentenced to four years in prison Friday.

Eric Frank, 29, of Freedman Place pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, sale of narcotics and assault on a police officer at the Stamford courthouse. The sentence handed down by Judge Gary White carries an eight year term of special parole, which can immediately put Frank back in jail for almost any violation of the law once he is released.

 

Stamford teen gets five years for armed robbery

STAMFORD-The second adolescent teen that involved the shooting of a New Britain teen during a drug ripoff in 2016 was sentenced to five years in jail at the Stamford courthouse Friday.

Armoni Kelley, 17, was given the sentence by Judge Gary White nearly seven months after pleading guilty to armed robbery.

Police said three New Britain boys came to Stamford to sell a quarter-pound of marijuana to Kelley. But Kelley and his friend Savior Dominguez, 16, argued with them about the weight of the pot.

 

Two promoted to deputy fire chief in Stamford

STAMFORD — Matthew Palmer and Thomas Gloersen were officially sworn in this week as deputy chiefs of the city’s fire department.

They were each promoted from captain last month and have been serving in their new roles for about three weeks. The department has six deputy chiefs who serve under Chief Trevor Roach.

“These are important promotions as we continue to unify and improve the fire service. The promotion of Capt. Gloersen and Capt. Palmer are a testament to what both have accomplished throughout their careers,” Mayor David Martin said.

 

Police: Stamford men caught with 13 pounds of pot

STAMFORD — Police say two men out on bail after being caught a few months ago with nine pounds of marijuana were found this week with 13 more pounds of pot.

Police said the estimated street value of the “extremely high-grade” pot was more than $50,000.

Capt. Richard Conklin said Narcotics and Organized Crime officers spotted a black BMW X5 occupied by three men on Montauk Drive near Putnam Lane Wednesday night.

 

Charges dismissed against former Stamford shelter manager

STAMFORD — A reckless endangerment charge that has dogged the city’s former animal shelter manager for three years was erased Thursday after Laurie Hollywood spent the day in a court diversionary program for first-time offenders.

In a surprise development at the Stamford courthouse Wednesday, Hollywood was granted participation in the Accelerated Rehabilitation program that allows criminal charges against cardinally law-abiding citizens be expunged from their criminal records.

 

Sketch of possible burglary suspect released by Stamford police

STAMFORD — Police are asking the public to help identify a man who was seen casing two residences on Grove Street and downtown Stamford.

“It was like the guy was almost like a peeping Tom, looking into people’s windows possibly trying to figure out how to get into people’s homes,” said property crimes Sgt. Sean Scanlan.

When the man was spotted by two women in their residences he quickly left and did not confront either, Scanlan said.

 

Stamford man charged with strangling, beating girlfriend

STAMFORD — A city man faces numerous charges after police say he violated a court order when he strangled and assaulted his girlfriend on New Year’s Day.

Brian Gonzalez, 20, of Willowbrook Avenue, has been charged with 68 counts of harassment and violating a protective order along with charges of strangulation, assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, threatening and unlawful restraint. He is being held in lieu of a $175,000 court appearance bond.
