Boy found wandering in Auburn Hills; abuse investigation started

A 9-year-old boy was found by Auburn Hills police wandering on Lapeer Road at about 7 p.m. Thursday. Taking the boy to their police offices, he told officers he ran away from his mother because he had been struck by an extension cord by his mother. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were summoned because the boy was missing out of Pontiac.

The public space tucked between Fillmore 13 Brewery and Buckner's A Dessert Cafe in downtown Pontiac is on its way to becoming a park. A set of Neighborhood Empowerment Grants from the city were awarded to business owners and community activists looking to redub the space as "Hidden River Park.

 

Baby badly burned; investigation under way

A 19-month-old little boy was severely burned by hot water in Pontiac this past week, sparking an investigation by police and Child Protective Services. The boy's mother took the child to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on Thursday, and then he was transferred to Children's Hospital in Detroit.

 

Troy police return missing parrot to its home

"You never know where the day will lead you when you walk out of roll call," according to a post on the Troy Police Department's Facebook page.On Saturday, June 30, officers were led to a gas station on John R Road, where a parrot -- more specifically, a sun conure -- landed on a man's shoulder while he was pumping gas.

The Gretchko Elementary community has raised enough money to buy five apple trees to plant on Apple Island, which is owned by the West Bloomfield School District.Teacher Mary Ann Ayar spearheaded the fundraising effort. Teacher Liz Costello's idea of making note cards and recycled crayon projects to sell at several Gretchko events helped fund the project.

 

Rochester Hills Public Library used books and media sale to feature CDs and DVDs

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library's used book and media sale will offer a huge number of CDs and DVDs for sale. The sale is set for July 25 to July 28 and Monday, July 30, at the library, 500 Olde Towne Road in downtown Rochester. It will be located in the library's second floor addition in the space dedicated to the Friends' used media operation.

 

Milford man defrauds IRS, ordered to pay $500K in restitution

Viorel Pricop, 60, has been sentenced to 26 months in jail for defrauding the IRS. According to court records, from at least 2010 through 2014, Pricop defrauded the IRS by generating a substantial amount of income that was not reported on his tax returns. As part of his guilty plea, he admitted the total tax loss caused by his false or unfiled tax turns was $501,956, which he earned while owning and operating Twin Twisters Trucking and Good Time, LLC.
