Trial date set for Rochester Hills murder of Cory Ehlers, court awaits psych eval

An Oct. 29 trial date is scheduled for a Rochester Hills man charged with murdering his wife last March, while the court awaits results of a psychiatric evaluation ordered for him.Shaun Wheeler, 39, turned himself in at the sheriff's substation in Rochester Hills substation shortly after the killing of Cory Ehlers, 41, at their home on Emmons Avenue.

 

Hundreds without electricity in southern Oakland County

Hundreds are awaiting the restoration of electricity after losing power on Sunday evening.The two biggest outages are in Oakland County, in Farmington Hills and Royal Oak, according to the DTE Energy Outage Map. Most of the outages from Sunday are restored in Farmington Hills, but 862 homes and businesses were without power at 9 a.

 

Local students heading to Lansing for 'moot court'

Oakland County high school students interested in the judicial system are joining other teens throughout the state to participate in a moot court beginning Monday at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing.The program, "Exploring Careers in Law," will allow students to argue whether the government needs a search warrant to access cell phone location data, and render an opinion in court.

Rochester Hills man honors daughter by donating to local neighborhood

At the end of the work day, nearly every day, a man would sit in his car at the entrance of the Kensington Forest subdivision in Rochester Hills. This worried some neighbors who brought it to the attention of the Homeowners Association. Board member Trevor Giannetti said, when someone approached the man and asked who he was, he responded that the fountains in the subdivision were relaxing to him and he enjoyed listening to them.

Motorcyclist, Jeep passenger hospitalized after Bloomfield Township crash

Two West Bloomfield residents were transported to a hospital for treatment after a collision between a Jeep Compass and a Harley Davidson motorcycle in Bloomfield Township Friday, July 13, around 9:25 p.m.According to a police report, the Jeep was traveling southbound on Inkster Road, crossed the center line, and collided with the Harley Davidson heading northbound.

 

Assault case involving mental health patients includes 2 Oakland County defendants

Nine staff members, including two from Oakland County, have been charged in connection with the physical abuse of three patients at a mental health facility in Livonia, according to a report on WDIV-TV.
