Suneel Gupta, 11th Congressional District candidate, has released his first television ad titled, "Gupta vs. Trump". The ad highlights a few of the differences between Gupta and President Donald Trump. Gupta said, if elected, he will fight to take the country back from Trump. Town hall for 12-year police, fire special assessment in Waterford coming up

A town hall meeting has been set for later this month to discuss Waterford Township's special assessment to fund its police and fire departments. The proposal will be on the ballot for the upcoming primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 7. If passed, it would levy up to 2.95 mills on all real property in the township not exempt from taxes for 12 years.

 

Search continues for suspected drowning victim

A search continues for a swimmer suspected of drowning in White Lake on Sunday afternoon.As of Monday at 2:30 p.m., divers from the Oakland County Sheriff's dive team were still trying to find the 55-year-old Hartland man. According to the sheriff's office, the man's wife said he had been swimming around and beneath a pontoon boat in White Lake near the residential area of Seven Harbors in Highland Township when he went under the boat at failed to surface.

 

Learn how bean plants grow -- and make a necklace

The Oakland County Farmers Market and the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener Program invite kids to learn how bean plants grow, while making a necklace. The Beany Necklace program will take place at the Farmers Market on Saturday, July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This children's activity is available on a drop-in basis, as long as kids are accompanied a parent.

A baby girl chimpanzee was born at the Detroit Zoo on World Chimpanzee Day over the weekend.Weighing 4 pounds, she was born shortly after midnight Saturday and named Jane, in honor of Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist and anthropologist.World Chimpanzee Day recognizes the day in 1960 that Goodall first arrived in what is now Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania to study chimpanzees, zoo officials said.

Free outdoor movies in downtown Ferndale start Thursday

Downtown Ferndale is ready to start its summertime free outdoor movie offerings for the season on Thursday."We keep getting bigger crowds every year," said Cindy Willcock, deputy director of the city's Downtown Development Authority which organizes the movies-under-the stars program. Hundreds of people turn out for the family event, hosted on Vester Street, just east of Woodward and a block north of Nine Mile Road.
