Judge allows sex slave lawsuit against Backpage to move forward

A woman who claims Backpage.com allowed her to be sold for sex as a minor will be able to sue the website despite arguments that federal law and recent precedent should bar her case, according to a Massachusetts federal judge.The 18-year-old woman, who says she was sold for sex “in Massachusetts and Florida through various means, including Backpage.com,” can continue her suit against the company because she alleged that it changed the content of an ad she was listed in — a claim that, if true, could render the website vulnerable.

The city added a second ambulance to East Boston after wait times for top-priority calls there spiked to 8 minutes, a full 2 minutes more than the department’s target for critical emergencies.Boston EMS chief Jim Hooley said the new ambulance has been staffed day and evenings since March 12.Call times in East Boston for reports of heart attacks, difficulty breathing, “man down” or other critical incidents had jumped to 8 minutes, while the goal for the top-priority incidents is 6 minutes, Hooley said.

 

N.H. man hailed as a hero after saving tots in fire

A 24-year-old New Hampshire man is being hailed as a hero after pulling a baby and a toddler from a burning apartment early yesterday morning, fire officials said.Devin Isaacs was among the tenants of a four-unit building at The Village at Crafts Hill Apartments in West Lebanon, N.H., who fled the blaze that was first reported about 1:55 a.m., Lebanon fire Chief Chris Christopoulos said. But before evacuating the building, Christopoulos said Isaacs rescued two little girls, ages 18 months and 3, from the first-floor apartment where the fire broke out.

 

Texas couple with stockpile of weapons held without bail

A husband and wife from Texas will be held without bail for four months as authorities continue to investigate why they had an arsenal including an AK-47, an AR-15 with a grenade launcher, a large-capacity shotgun, a bump stock and numerous rounds of ammunition in their Tewksbury hotel room.Francho S. Bradley, 59, and his common-law wife, Adrianne Jennings, 40, both of Frisco, Texas, were ordered held after a dangerousness hearing in Lowell District Court, six days after the weaponry was found in their room.

School workers gets 6 months in jail for abusing student

PITTSFIELD — A former employee of a now-closed western Massachusetts school for boys with autism and behavioral disorders has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting a student.The Berkshire Eagle reports that 57-year-old James Swift is the first of nearly 20 former employees of the Eagleton School in Great Barrington to be sent to jail in the case.Prosecutors say in January 2016, Swift punched a 19-year-old autistic student in the face after the student became upset.
