There is a heat advisory for most of the Augusta area until 7 p.m., the National Weather Service says.
The affected counties include Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie, McCormick, Edgefield, Aiken and Barnwell.
Temperatures are expected to reach anywhere from 99 to 102 today, with heat index values around 110 degrees.
The impact of the high temperatures could cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which could occur quickly if you are working outside, the weather service said.
