3 found dead near Atlanta airport

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Authorities say three people have been found shot dead inside an apartment in suburban Atlanta.

News outlets report that police say the bodies were discovered Tuesday evening inside a home at the Lakeview Trails Apartments in Clayton County.

Clayton County Police Deputy Chief Michael Register says authorities were first called to the scene for a report of a domestic dispute.

 

Zika spraying killing SC bees

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — There’s been some collateral damage in the fight against Zika - millions of honeybees in South Carolina.

News outlets report that Dorchester County officials have apologized for killing the bees when the county failed to notify local beekeepers about mosquito spraying last weekend.

Four travel-related cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in the county northwest of Charleston. Aerial mosquito spraying operations were conducted Sunday morning.

 

Fleeing woman runs over SC deputy

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Authorities say a woman has been arrested after she ran over a deputy with her car while trying to escape arrest.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Ty Miller tells news outlets that the incident happened Tuesday.

Miller says the deputy involved was taken to a hospital with injuries that are serious but not life-threatening.

Officials say deputies responding to a domestic incident found that the woman had assaulted someone at a home.

 

SC dog dragged to death

SAINT MATTHEWS, S.C. — Authorities in Calhoun County are looking for a person who they say dragged a dog to its death with a vehicle and then drove away.

Taylor Hendrix of CrimeStoppers says witnesses say the female suspect held a rope out of the window of her car that was attached to the dog’s neck and pulled it alongside her until the animal couldn’t keep up.

Witness Shawn Sturkie tells news outlets that she had to confront the driver before the woman would let go of the rope. The suspect fled.

 

Man wanted for questioning

 
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a man who used a credit card previously stolen from a vehicle.
Surveillance footage at the Walmart on Wrightsboro Road caputures images of the man who police said used a credit card that had been stolen from a vehicle early this month.

Commissioners refer recreation master plan to full commission

 
An Augusta committee sent a $75 million recreation master plan to the full commission Tuesday without a recommendation after several commissioners had questions about the plan.
Recreation Director Glenn Parker said the 274-page document was “a great representation of where this agency needs to be headed in the next five years,” that was steered by the public’s response to a survey.

 

Blue Cross to become sole provider in much of Georgia

In nearly two-thirds of the counties in the state, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia will be the sole provider for anyone who wants to get insurance under the Affordable Care Act. It is a responsibility the company does not take lightly, and it would like to find a way to make it work, its president said.

 

Man charged in Clemson party shooting

CENTRAL, S.C. — Authorities say a 21-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder for shooting someone during a fight at a party that may have had 1,000 people at an off-campus apartment complex near Clemson University.

Pickens County Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said in a news release that Jackson Rowland was arrested late Monday.

Hashe says Rowland and several other people got into a fight early Sunday at Cottages of Clemson about three miles from campus.

 

Bus wreck kills Georgia student, 15

VALDOSTA, Ga. — A student has died after a crash involving a school bus and a semitrailer that also injured more than a dozen students on a south Georgia interstate, authorities said.

Rebecca Hall, 15, of Valdosta died after the crash Monday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Valdosta, Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Chris Kelch said in a statement Tuesday.

Thomson moves up two spots in latest prep football poll

Two area programs held strong while a couple inched closer to being ranked in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association High School Football Poll released Tuesday.
Thomson moved up two spots to No. 4 in Class AAAA after beating Effingham County at The Brickyard last week. The Bulldogs moved to 2-0 ahead of a showdown Friday night at Jefferson, which is ranked No. 3 in the same poll.
Jefferson County held firm at No. 5 in Class AA after beating Lakeside by 17 points last week. The Warriors moved to 2-0.
