Evacuated campers may return for gear

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced a procedure for reclaiming gear for the scores of campers forced from south county campgrounds by fire over the weekend.The Browns Creek Fire had burned more than 40 acres at last count but was surrounded by fire lines and 20 percent contained, according to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center.

 

Underpass detour

The Third Street underpass will be closed from 7 p. m. to 7 a. m. nightly throughout August as city crews work to correct frequent flooding.

Montana Silk Marlatt: Marlatt faces charges of murder and first-degree manslaughter, for allegedly killing Devon Moschetti, 19, with whom he was shooting targets in April. Marlatt has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently being held in the Jefferson County jail. Marlatt is expected to go to trial on Sept.

 

OSP seeks witnesses to fatal crash Friday north of Madras

Oregon State Police are looking for witnesses who may have left the scene of a double fatal traffic crash July 19 north of Madras without talking to police.The crash, at about 5:30 p. m. on U. S. Highway 97 seven miles north of Madras, killed Warren Chester Ward, 91, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Harold M. Curtis, 71, of Antelope.

The evacuation order for North Twin Lake and South Twin Lake campgrounds, imposed Sunday during a fire at Wickiup Reservoir, has been lifted, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.However, Forest service Road 42 from 4260 Road to Cascade Lakes Highway remains closed.

 

Juvenile suspected of July 19 fire opposite Farewell Bend

Bend police linked a 15-year-old boy smoking marijuana and lighting fireworks to a brush fire July 19 near Farewell Bend Park, according to a police spokesman this morning.Police contacted a second boy and are looking for two more connected with the incident, according to Lt.

 

Suspects arrested in drive-by shooting

Crook County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Sunday on suspicion of shooting at a home north of Prineville early that morning.According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation of the incident revealed the shooting might be related to a dispute that began Saturday at the Jefferson County Fair and continued later that day at a home in Jefferson County.
