Crash injures 2 north of Bend

Two men were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on U. S. Highway 97 about four miles north of Bend Wednesday morning.According to Oregon State Police, at around 6:15 p. m., Matthew D. Morkert, 21, of Bend, attempted to make a U-turn from the southbound shoulder. Driving south in the left lane, Kyle T.

Dog “Chance" not dragged; Sheriff’s Office says dog jumped out of a moving vehicle

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has concluded the dog “Chance" was injured as the result of it jumping out a car window while the car was moving, not dragged behind a vehicle.No criminal citations have been issued, according to a news release.The dog was found injured Monday on Smith Rock Road in Terrebonne. A deputy told The Bulletin Wednesday it had a report the dog was dragged behind a vehicle.

 

Utility payments now go to Seattle

Residents of Bend must now send their utility payments to a post office box in Seattle. There are two reasons for the change.The city previously paid Bank of the Cascades to process the payments, but the bank stopped offering this service, said city Budget and Support Services Manager Sharon Wojda. Bank of the Cascades began using a company called Retail Lockbox Inc. in Seattle to process payments, and the city also switched to Retail Lockbox Inc.

 

Man extradited from Mexico

A Portland man facing sex abuse charges in Deschutes County was arrested last week in Reynosa, Mexico, and will be transported to Bend to await trial, according to Lt.

Sunnyside doubled Tuesday; containment expected Sunday

The Sunnyside Turnoff Fire grew Tuesday to 45,419 acres, or 71 square miles, according to latest figures from the National Interagency Coordination Center.The fire started Saturday on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation.
