Crews responding to new fires

Fire crews were responding to reports of at least a dozen new fires in Central Oregon on Friday evening, following scattered thunderstorms that moved through the area earlier in the day.In a Friday evening update, the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center reported that smokejumpers have responded to several fire starts in remote areas, and that most new fires have been limited to half an acre or less.

Emergency fire closure for Green Ridge Fire near Camp Sherman

The Deschutes National Forest is implementing emergency fire closures to protect public and firefighter safety as crews continue to work on the Green Ridge Fire, near Camp Sherman, a forest spokeswoman announced.Beginning today the public will not be allowed in the closure area in the Sisters Ranger District and on certain roads and trails around the perimeter of the area until the emergency closure is lifted.

Firefighter killed by falling snag identified

One person was killed and another was injured while working on a fire near the Mount Washington Wilderness today, according to Jean Nelson-Dean, spokeswoman for Deschutes National Forest.John Hammack, 60 and of Madras, died at the scene, Nelson-Dean wrote in a press release, and Norman Crawford, 45, of Sisters, was injured in the accident. Crane Prairie crash injures two

Two men were injured Tuesday evening in a single-vehicle crash near Crane Prairie Resort, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office believes driver Maxwell Levi Morgan, 21, of Salem, was intoxicated when he failed to negotiate a curve along Forest Road 4270.

 

Arrest made in store scuffle

A man who allegedly punched another man in the face and threatened others with a knife at the Albertsons on the north end of Bend Tuesday night was arrested by Bend Police.
