Pooler awards $5 million contract for wastewater treatment plant upgrade

Officials in Pooler are preparing for an upgrade to the city’s wastewater treatment plant that will expand the facility’s capacity by 800,000 gallons a day.

 

Tybee Island to host beach sweep at close of Orange Crush weekend

Volunteers wanting to assist with the cleanup after the annual Orange Crush beach party on Tybee Island are invited to participate in a city-hosted beach sweep at 8 a.m. on April 17.
According to a notice from Tybee Island, the sweep was scheduled “in light of expected larger than normal crowds the weekend of April 15-17.”
Social media accounts associated with Orange Crush have indicated this year’s event will be held on April 15 and 16.

Savannah-Chatham police are asking the public for assistance in locating a missing Savannah teen, Darnisha Green, police spokeswoman, said.

 

Ramp construction will close lanes on Ga. 204 near King George Boulevard this week

A contractor for the Georgia Department of Transportation will be installing temporary lane closures with reduced speed limits on Ga. 204 in both directions, eastbound from King George Boulevard to Veteran’s Parkway, Jill Nagel, DOT spokeswoman, said.The work on the eastbound portion of the road is expected to last from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The work westbound from King George Boulevard to Pine Grove Road will take place beginning at 7 a.m. and is expect to last until 4 p.m., Nagel said.All work will take place from Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.

GDOT: Nighttime lane closures on Interstate 516 will continue this week

Contractors for Georgia Department of Transportation will be installing eastbound lane closures on I-516/Ga. 421 between Veterans Parkway and Montgomery Street in Chatham County, Jill Nagel, DOT spokeswoman, said.These nighttime closures have been scheduled for 7 p.m. and are expected to end at 7 a.m., March 22 through March 26. The lane closure will clear the way to make upgrades to the guardrail. All work is weather contingent. 

 

Guyton lawyer runs for magistrate in Effingham

Ransome David Swords of Guyton said a law degree isn’t required to be chief magistrate, but it sure would be helpful.
Swords is the only lawyer among the three men running for chief magistrate in Effingham County on May 24.

 

Hursey runs unopposed for re-election as Effingham clerk of court

Elizabeth Z. Hursey is running for re-election as Effingham County clerk of Superior Court.
Hursey, a Democrat, has no opposition in the May 24 general primary.
Hursey began working in the clerk’s office on Jan. 1, 1977, as deputy clerk, a post she held for eight years.
