Georgetown students collecting water for Mich.
Georgetown K8 students begin a two-week bottled water drive today. School officials will collect bottled water donated by the community and collected by students during the Fresh Water for Flint drive.
The effort begins at 7 a.m. at Georgetown K8 School, 1516 King George Blvd. A banner designed by Georgetown Future Business Leaders of America members will be raised in front of the school and the school mascot and staff will cheer on students and community donors.

Family Involvement Day set for April 9
The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System will hold a Family Involvement Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 at Savannah High School. The free event is designed to be a day of learning and fun.
Students can participate in STEM activities, complete college applications and federal financial aid forms. There will also be face painting, miniature golf, musical entertainment, an obstacle course, prizes and giveaways.

About 60 residents turned out to a town hall meeting hosted by Savannah Alderman John Hall on Monday night at Johnson High School to find out what the city had planned for District 3.

Savannah-Chatham police arrest teenager for two December shootings

Sunday, with assistance from Pooler police, Savannah-Chatham police arrested a 16-year-old male, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault for a Dec. 6 shooting on West 39th and Florance streets that injured a 17-year-old man and another shooting two days later on the 100 block of Clearwater Lane that injured an 18-year-old man.The suspect was arrested during a warrant service at his Pooler residence, in which evidence associated with both shootings was recovered. He was transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center without incident.

Spring brings more smog alerts for Savannah, other parts of state

ATLANTA — Residents of Augusta, Savannah, Athens, Brunswick and Atlanta should expect to hear more smog alerts as the weather warms up — not because the air is dirtier but because the threshold for alerts dropped, state environmental officials warned Monday.
April brings the start of smog-alert season since warm sunlight is one of the factors needed for the chemical reaction causing ground-level ozone. The increased number of alerts is because federal air-quality rules just got stricter.
