The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested nine men over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. From March 17 to March 20 the men were arrested for attempting to meet what they believed to be a child for the purpose of sex. The men arrived in Effingham County to find deputies waiting for them instead, according to Joe Heath with the Sheriff’s Office task force. Heath said at least one of those arrested is a registered sex offender, prosecuted previously for a crime against a child. These types of investigations are conducted in an effort to individuals that would target our children for sexual exploitation, Heath said. Those arrested were: Ashley Rahn, 35; Donald Depew, 26; Michael Robbins, 47; Omar Galvez, 30; Ricky Durden, 31, now of Springfield, formerly of North Carolina and a registered sex offender; Jamane Smith, 28; James J.
