Mentor to host job fair

Adults looking for a job in advanced manufacturing or other fields are invited to attend the Mentor Job Fair hosted by Ohio Means Jobs and the City of Mentor on Sept. 12.It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mentor Community Center located, 8600 Munson Road.Employers in attendance will include: Component Repair Technologies; Conn-Selmer, Inc.

 

Morley Library hosts talk on election security

Citizens concerned about the security of U.S. elections are invited to attend a free public program at 6:45 p.m., Sept. 11, in the Morley Library Community Room, 184 Phelps St. in Painesville. Speaking will be: Stephen Brooks, professor emeritus and associate director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the University of Akron, and Ross McDonald, director of the Lake County Elections Board of Elections.

 

Painesville Schools aims to increase participation in Cradle to Kindergarten program

With that idea in mind, Painesville Schools started an early literacy initiative for infants called Cradle to Kindergarten.Babies born at Lake Health hospitals, whose families reside in Painesville, are eligible to participate, said Painesville Schools Family Resource Center Site Coordinator Amber Torres.

 

Lake County perch fishing volume up

Thanks to a three-way agreement reached last December, perch fishing off the coast Lake Erie in Lake County has returned in a big way.The agreement between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, sport fishermen and commercial fishermen, protects the Fairport Harbor "Hump" vicinity of the lake.

 

Perry Village Council vacancy filled by business owner

A new Perry Village Council member has been appointed to fill the vacancy created when another councilman recently took over as mayor.Village Council on Aug. 23 selected Devin DiSantis to occupy the council seat formerly held by James Gessic. The search for a new council member began earlier this month when Gessic was elevated to the mayor's position.

Children and adults in Northeast Ohio, who never had the opportunity to indulge in one of America's favorite past times, have now had the chance to do just that.With the July 28 opening of the Lake Health Miracle Park, located adjacent to Classic Park in Eastlake, children and adults with developmental disabilities discovered the joy in hearing "batter up" knowing it was them being called up to home plate to swing that bat.

Willowick officer crashes into Cleveland home during pursuit

A Willowick police officer and two others were taken to the hospital after a police cruiser crashed into a Cleveland home during a morning pursuit Aug. 27. According to WIllowick police, the pursuit started after a smash and grab occurred at a check cashing business on Vine Street in Eastlake.

 

Coast Guard suspends search for missing Mentor man

The U.S. Coast Guard says its search for a Mentor man reported missing in Lake Erie has been suspended.Coast Guard officials said the search for a 46-year-old Robert Allan of Mentor, who went missing in the lake after reportedly jumping off a boat for a swim at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve and Marina in Mentor, was suspended Sunday.
