Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic relocating from Painesville to Willoughby

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Painesville Outpatient Clinic recently announced that it will be moving to Willoughby on Sept. 14.Its new home will be located at 35000 Kaiser Court and its new name will be the Lake County Community Based Outpatient Clinic, or CBOC, according to the announcement.

 

Senate votes to appropriate $1 million for Firefighter Cancer Registry Act

The newly enacted Firefighter Cancer Registry Act of 2018 is one step closer to receiving funding The United States Senate voted unanimously in an 85-0 vote on Aug. 20 to appropriate $1 million in funding for it. It now moves to the House.

 

Northeast Ohio departments awarded drug use prevention education grants

Several area law enforcement agencies were among the recipients of grants from the Ohio Attorney General's Office for drug use prevention education. Statewide the attorney general awarded $3 million in grants to 152 police departments and sheriff's offices agencies for programs in public schools.

 

Perry Schools CFO to take on additional role as Kirtland Schools treasurer

Kirtland Schools has entered into a three-year contract with Perry Schools to share the services of a treasurer.Lew Galante, chief financial officer for both Perry and Fairport Harbor school districts, will now share his time with Kirtland.

 

Mentor Rocks summer concerts keep rolling with extra show; attendance up

The Mentor Rocks series is wrapping up at Mentor Civic Amphitheater and the second season's attendance surged as word got out about the venue.An estimated 59,000 attended during the 11 shows, mostly tribute bands covering styles ranging from Journey to Johnny Cash and Pearl Jam to Prince.

Willoughby police: woman fires gun in air after man throws water bottle at her during argument

Willoughby police say they arrested two people involved in a road range incident that ended with a 39-year-old city woman firing a gunshot into the air after being hit in the face with a bottle. Police were alerted to the incident around 10:30 a.m., Aug. 22. Officers learned that a Chevrolet pick-up with a landscaping trailer was traveling northbound on Lost Nation Road going over to state Route 2 in the right lane.

 

Willoughby police arrest Cleveland man, two juveniles on kidnapping, robbery charges

Willoughby police arrested three people they said were involved in an aggravated robbery and kidnapping in the city late Aug. 22. The department received a 911 call at 9:57 p.m. from a 29-year-old woman who said she was robbed at gunpoint in the area of Euclid Avenue and the Frankyln Commons Condominium Complex.

 

Ford Road over I-90 in Madison closing

Ford Road over Interstate 90 in Madison will close for 45 days starting Aug. 27 for bridge maintenance, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Through traffic will be detoured via Blair, River and South Madison (Route 528) roads. >> View a map of this closure and detour

 

Showstoppers Studio holding open house, registration dates

The Showstoppers Studio is ready to start its 39th season with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 26, followed by registration dates Aug. 27-29 from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to come and meet the organization's baton and dance instructors, several competition team members as well as USA Team members Melissa Schuller,Erienne Hay and Lauren Heimert.
