Wickliffe library hosting program on insects

Wickliffe Public Library will be holding "Nature Academy: Insects" at 10 a.m., Aug. 25.The North Chagrin Nature Center will visit the library to explore insects. Ohio lawmakers studying Lake Erie's harmful algae to meet next week

TOLEDO >> A group of Ohio lawmakers who will look into Lake Erie's health will be led by two legislators who have criticized the governor's move to create tougher regulations on thousands of farmers.The legislature's Republican leaders appointed the panel in the wake of Gov. John Kasich's executive order calling for new rules to combat the lake's harmful algae blooms.

 

Man accused of killing Mentor police officer indicted on multiple charges

The Lake County grand jury on Aug. 17 filed a five-count indictment against the 24-year-old man accused of killing a Mentor police officer. Brian A. Anthony is charged with second-degree aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Patrolman Mathew Mazany, according to the Lake County Prosecutor's Office.

 

Willoughby Brewing Co. plans fundraiser in honor of fallen Mentor officer

Willoughby Brewing Co. announced it will be hosting a fundraising event in honor of Mathew Mazany, the Mentor police officer who was killed in a hit-and-run incident June 24.The event will take place from 2 to 8 p.m., Aug. 26, at the restaurant, 4057 Erie St. in Willoughby. There will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.
