Former NBC Sports worker extradited to Stamford on theft charges

STAMFORD-The theft of computers at NBC Sports Group headquarters led to the Texas extradition of the group’s former mailroom manager, police said.

Property Crimes Sgt. Steve Perrotta said that NBC Sports made a complaint to the police department in January 2014 when they did an audit and realized that some electronic devices had been stolen by Schmidt, who had been hired by an outside contractor to manage the mail room.

 

Residents angered by rash of car break-ins in Springdale

STAMFORD-Police are looking for three teenagers believed to be responsible for a rash of car break-ins in Springdale that in just one car resulted in the theft of about $850 in cash from one woman early Tuesday morning.

After unlocking the car and getting in, the first thing she did was reach for a small purse containing her wallet that she has had a habit of stuffing under the passenger seat.

Inside the purse was her rent money that along with some other cash totaled about $850, she said, along with about $450 in gift cards for her young son that she collected for him over the holidays and

 

Downtown chase ends on I-95 in Stamford

The chase began as police were pulling over a vehicle on Washington Boulevard at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday that was connected to as yet unknown police investigation.

Police must have suspected that the suspect would flee and were ready with multiple police cars in the immediate area.

 

One sister, now another arrested on animal abuse charges in Stamford

While at an appearance Tuesday at the Stamford courthouse for causing a ruckus in the courtroom when her sister was arraigned in December, Debra Tandet, 55, was taken into custody and charged with four counts of accessory to animal cruelty and quickly released after posting a $15,000 bond.

According to police, the charges came after a four-month investigation following a neighbor’s complaint in August about two adult dogs and two puppies barking overnight on the sister’s property.

Coke bust on High Ridge in Stamford

Capt. Richard Conklin said Narcotics and Organized Crime squad officers had word that a man was selling cocaine from a silver Honda parked in a High Ridge Road shopping center.

When they knocked on the window the man, identified as Zaka Hussain, 24, of Caldwell Avenue, was reluctant to unlock the door and as he rolled down his window a little bit, the officers could see something in his right hand that he was trying to put in his jacket pocket.

 

Pot deal gone wrong robbery victims charged in Stamford

When police first talked to the victims as they were calling for help after fleeing the scene of the shooting on Seaton Road in the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 27, they were told that they came from New Britain to sell a valuable pair of sneakers.

The Stamford juvenile was identified by police as the gunman and charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery.

STAMFORD — State Rep. Dan Fox, D-148, has been named chairman of the General Assembly’s Government Administration and Elections Committee.

The committee addresses state government organization, Freedom of Information and Ethics commissions, state and federal relations, interstate compacts, constitutional amendments and elections, according to a news release from House Democrats.

 

Man struck with pot, daughter’s boyfriend arrested in Stamford

STAMFORD-A city man living with his girlfriend’s East Side family, was arrested for opening a large gash in the head of his girlfriend’s father by slamming cooking pot over the man’s head, police said.

Flustered and out of breath as they stood above the 55-year-old man lying on the kitchen floor with blood pooling around his head, the man’s wife and her daughter asked the responding police officer for his help.

 

Norwalk driver crashes two cars in one morning in Stamford

Phillips, who failed the sobriety tests administered to him, was booked on drunk driving charges, traveling unreasonably fast, reckless driving and driving under suspension.

The officer seeing the Charger on its way, watched the prominent nose of the car dive when the driver hit the brakes after realizing there was a speed trap ahead.

Phillips was then charged with engaging police in pursuit, drunk driving, driving under suspension, failure to drive right and speeding.
