Bone density test can lead to delay for osteoporosis

From childhood, we’ve heard about the importance of drinking plenty of milk and maintaining a healthy diet throughout life to help prevent bone loss. Yet, more than 40 million American men and women have osteoporosis or are at high risk for it, due to low bone mass.

 

Library sets teen poetry contest

The Springfield Public Library will sponsor its inaugural Teen Poetry Contest in celebration of National Poetry Month in April. The idea for a poetry contest came from Teen Advisory Board, or TAB, members.

 

Thurston student takes crown

Amanda Merrill isn’t the only distinguished pageant winner from Springfield. Harley Emery, 16, a sophomore at Thurston High School, was crowned Miss Outstanding Teen last month at a Hult Center event hosted by the Miss America organization.

Millers begin quest for history

Springfield will begin the final stage of its journey to become a three-time defending state champion today when the Millers face Lebanon in the OSAA Class 5A state girls basketball quarterfinals at Matthew Knight Arena. The top-ranked Millers (22-3) have won 17 games in a row entering today’s 1:30 p.m.

 

Colts search for leadership

The Thurston boys’ basketball team is probably in a state of reflection this week after completing its second consecutive losing season last Tuesday. The Colts endured a trying season on the hardwood en route to a 12-13 record overall with a 1-7 mark against District 1 competition.
