James Verrier, CEO of BorgWarner, will step down from his position this summer, according to Crain's Detroit Business. Frederic Lissalde, COO for the automotive supplier, will take over the role of CEO on Aug.

 

Open house to offer look at restoration of Sashabaw Presbyterian Church

Community members will have the chance to tour Clarkston's Sashabaw Presbyterian Church at an upcoming open house. The event, set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, will allow the public to see the work being done to restore the historic church by students of the Clarkston Community Schools construction technology program, and learn about how the building will be used as a community center once restoration is complete.

 

South half of Halsted-Maple intersection closes in West Bloomfield Township

The Road Commission for Oakland County expects to close the south half of the Halsted Road intersection at Maple Road in West Bloomfield Township on Monday, June 11.The intersection improvement work is part of the ongoing Maple Road project between Drake and Halsted roads.Separate detours have been set up for traffic that utilizes northbound and southbound Halsted Road south of Maple Road.

 

Walled Lake Northern student arrested for allegedly making death threats

A 17-year-old Walled Lake Northern student from Commerce Township was taken to the Oakland County Jail on June 7 for reportedly threatening to kill other students on the last day of school.According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the teenager acknowledged making the threat because he was angry that other students were harassing him.

 

Oakland County Parks and Recreation property tax to bring in $13.4 million for parks system

Oakland County taxpayers can expect to pay slightly less in property taxes to support the county's parks system. In 2017, residents paid a 0.2368 tax rate, or $0.2368 per $1,000 of their home's taxable value, to support the operations of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department. That equated to $47.

 

Detroit Zoo combines 3 bear habitats, doubling space

ROYAL OAK (AP) - The Detroit Zoo announced it has converted three bear habitats into one collective environment, more than doubling the space shared by three rescued grizzly bears.The renovated 20,000-square-foot (1,858-square meter) habitat aims to provide a more "naturalistic" experience for the bear brothers Mike, Thor and Boo.

 

One dead, two injured in overnight crash

One man was killed and two others badly injured in a car crash early Sunday, shortly after they had left work. The accident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, June 10, along South Boulevard near Fredmoore Drive in Rochester Hills. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called out to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a 1988 Dodge Daytona that had been traveling eastbound on South, veering left of center and then through a ditch and striking a utility pole.

 

Body of man found in Pontiac's Osmun Lake identified

Authorities have released the name of the man whose body was found in Pontiac's Osmun Lake Thursday, June 7.According to Fox 2 Detroit, Emilio Valdez was reported missing Wednesday.

Officials aren't sure whether this summer will be worse for biting insects such as mosquitos and ticks. It depends whether where you live has high humidity or standing water available.But experts agree that whether there is an infestation or not, Oakland County residents need to take precautions to prevent the diseases insects may carry.

 

Trial underway for murder of West Bloomfield's Diana Pesserl

Testimony will continue Monday in Oakland Circuit Court in the murder trial of DeSean Smith, 20, charged with killing Diana Pesserl, 31 of West Bloomfield in December 2016. Smith is charged with open murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and fourth-degree arson.
