Holocaust Memorial Center names Tim Constant as manager of education outreach

Tim Constant of Royal Oak has been named manager of education outreach at the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington Hills. This is a newly created position to engage Michigan school superintendents, principals and teachers in Holocaust and genocide education, following Governor Rick Snyder's signing of Revised School Code, House Bill 4493 into law which requires social studies curriculum about genocide, including the Holocaust, for students in grades 8 to 12.

 

Democratic Oakland County commissioners introduce resolution in support of regional transit tax

Dave Woodward said there are regional challenges in getting people to where they need to go and connecting them to their communities. The Oakland County commissioner, along with the six other Democratic commissioners, introduced a resolution at the May 17 board meeting asking the full board, and other county legislative leaders, to support the campaign to get the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan (RTA)

 

Hit-and-run driver kills 14-year-old boy in Wixom

A 14-year-old boy died at an area hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday in Wixom. Wixom Police were called to the scene of a hit-and-run accident involving a cyclist around 5:40 p.m. along Potter Road just east of Wixom Road. When officers arrived on the scene, paramedics and Wixom firefighters were administering life-saving techniques on the boy.

 

Amy Newman named chief development officer of Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit

Amy Newman was named chief development officer of Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit. Newman was previously director of leadership development at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. She has held a number of Jewish Communal roles in the Detroit area, as well as Los Angeles and her hometown of Cincinnati.

 

Mom home with 2 kids when man breaks in

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the 1200 block of Oakmont Drive in Oxford Township on Friday morning by a woman who reported someone had broken in while she was home with her two kids.According to the sheriff's office, the woman said she and the kids, ages 11 and 1, were upstairs when they heard a loud bang from the kitchen at around 8 a.

 

Man arrested for drunken driving after allegedly crashing in to Troy house

Troy police charged a 51-year-old man for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly crashed in to a house on John R Road at about 2:30 a.m. June 2.The man's wife told police she was driving the 2016 Kia Soul and lost control.The man, a Troy resident, told police he had a few drinks at an establishment in Troy.

Elissa Slotkin will be celebrating the opening of her Rochester campaign office on Friday, June 15. Slotkin is seeking Michigan's 8th Congressional District seat, which is currently held by U.S. Rep. U.S. Senate candidate John James hosting June 12 campaign rally in Novi

Republican U.S. Senate candidate John James will welcome veteran Robert O'Neill to Novi Tuesday evening. The "Take Back Michigan' campaign rally, which begins at 7 p.m. inside the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Avenue, will feature O'Neill, the former Navy SEAL who killed Osama Bin Laden.

 

Gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer in Pontiac Tuesday

One of the front runners in the race for Michigan's next governor will be in Pontiac on Tuesday. Democrat Gretchen Whitmer will visit the Alley Cat Cafe, 31 N. Saginaw Street, from noon to 1 p.m. She will be attending a meet-and-greet event hosted by Fems for Dems, a local grassroots group.

 

Training center files suit to recover embezzled union funds

DETROIT (AP) - The United Automobile Workers-Chrysler National Training Center is suing several people connected to a scheme that funneled cash and gifts to union leaders.The Detroit News reports that the lawsuit was filed Friday in Oakland County and seeks to recover more than $4 million.Named are former Fiat Chrysler executive Al Iacobelli (IKE'-uh-belly), former financial analyst Jerome Durden, and Monica Morgan, widow of deceased UAW vice president General Holiefield.
