Lake Orion Gazebo Concert Series to run until Aug. 29

The Lake Orion Gazebo Concert Series will offer free concerts on Wednesday nights until Aug. 29. The concerts will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Children's Park in downtown Lake Orion. Everyone attending the concerts will be eligible to win a different prize each week, provided by local downtown merchants.

 

Nine to compete in Miss Oakland County pageant at Oakland University

The next Miss Oakland County will be crowned this Saturday, July 14 at Oakland University. It's the 44th year for the scholarship pageant, which serves as the preliminary to Miss Michigan and the Miss America Scholarship Organization. Four Miss Oakland County winners have gone on in that time to become Miss Michigan.

In June 2017, Corporate Eagle, southeast Michigan's largest provider of private business aviation, announced it would be expanding its footprint at the airport to accommodate for its experienced growth and future needs.

The numbers reveal it's been a good start to 2018 for Oakland County.Through June, the county experienced around $245.4 million worth of investments across a wide range of industries including advanced electronics, health care, robotics, alternative energy, information technology and communications.

 

All Kensington Church members safely depart from unrest in Haiti

All members of an Oakland County church have safely departed from Haiti, where they had been stranded for several days after unrest broke out and grounded flights.About 100 members of Kensington Church, including Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett, were in the Caribbean island nation doing mission work when rioting began over a government proposal to raise fuel rates.

 

Pontiac baby found dead while sleeping with mom, preliminary investigation suggests accidental smothering

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a three-month-old baby girl in Pontiac, found dead by her mother in the bed they had been sharing.Emergency responders were called to a home in the 400 block of Highland Ave. just before 1 a.m. Wednesday on a report that the infant was unresponsive and not breathing.

 

Blessing of the Animals for pets, owners to be held in Waterford

Whether it has fins, paws, hooves or wings, Waterford's Community Presbyterian Church wants to bless your pet. Beth Delaney, interim pastor, will hold a blessing of the animals from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 on the church lawn. It's an idea that's been in the works for several years at the church, which celebrated its 90th birthday in May.

 

Car stolen from Pontiac pulled over for traffic violation, driver arrested

A traffic stop in Pontiac early Tuesday morning resulted in the recovery of a car reported stolen a day earlier in the city, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.A deputy patrolling the area of Cameron Avenue and N. Perry Street pulled over the vehicle, a 2007 Honda Accord, for a traffic violation.

 

County health officials confirm 18 cases of Legionnaires' disease

The Oakland County Health Division said the county has had 18 confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease in 2018. Officials said all 18 cases have sought treatment and have either fully recovered or are currently recovering. There have been no reported deaths. According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, there have been 135 confirmed cases of legionellosis reported in 33 counties in 2018, compared to 107 confirmed cases during the same timeframe last year.
