Stamford shooting victim charged in drug bust

Capt. Richard Conklin said Jason Raffaeli, 24, of Cold Spring Road, was under surveillance Wednesday by the police department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime squad.

Conklin said police found two mason jars containing 294 grams of marijuana — or more than 10 ounces — and packaging supplies inside Raffaeli’s Cold Spring Road apartment.

Raffaeli, who was shot in the chest, abdomen and legs during a gun fight near the corner of Cedar and Henry streets in July, was held in lieu of a $10,000 court appearance bond.

 

Stamford man charged with punching youth, injuring cops

“This assault and arrest shows the inherent danger the SPD is up against every day and these officers did an exemplary job by bringing a violent suspect under control with restraint and professionalism,” Lt. Diedrich Hohn said in a press release.

According to the release, two city deputy fire marshals saw Murray allegedly attacking the boy at the corner of Cove Road and Dale Street just after 2 p.m.

 

Jail doubled for man in Stamford police assault case

At a hearing at the Stamford courthouse, Anthony McCandies, 30, was sentenced to eight years in jail after he was quickly found guilty by a jury in November of two counts of assault on a police officer and being in possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Before demanding what turned out to be a two-day trial in November, McCandies had been offered a four-year jail term and five years of special parole for his guilty pleas to the felony charges.

Board approves interest payment to Stamford union

STAMFORD — The Board of Representatives on Tuesday approved $10,000 in interest to the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association for the late payment of retroactive wages.

The city and Local 786 approved a contract last summer with a 16.25 pay increase from 2011 to 2018.

 

Board recognizes Stamford veteran

STAMFORD — The Board of Representatives recognized a city man and former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who was inducted last month into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.

Archie Elam, 61, spent two decades in the armed forces after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and is commander of the Fairfield County branch of Connecticut’s Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The hall of fame was created in 2005 to recognize Connecticut veterans who make significant contributions to their communities after leaving military service.

 

Memorial set up at site of fatal Stamford crash

Flowers, candles, a teddy bear and a picture of the driver — whose identify is being withheld — were attached to a tree at the corner of Stillwater Avenue and Progress Drive.

Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, the head of the police department’s Collision and Analysis and Reconstruction Squad, said the youth was traveling too fast on Stillwater Avenue when his car veered out of its lane into the long turn and into the eastbound lane before striking the tree.

 

Stamford woman accused of assaulting pregnant relative

Keesha Little, 39, of Bedford Street, was charged Tuesday with assault on a pregnant woman, strangulation, risk of injury to a child, threatening and unlawful restraint.

Shawinsky said the younger woman, who is six months pregnant, did not need medical attention and was given a short-term “safety plan” that would enable her to stay out of contact with Little.

 

Man who fired gun is convicted of different gun charge in Stamford

STAMFORD — A city man arrested for firing a pistol after his friend was injured during a midday shooting on the West Side in mid-December, was unexpectedly convicted on another gun charge from two years earlier and will be spending at least two years in jail, court officials said.

“He is a good kid and he comes from a loving home, as you can tell,” said his mother Cindy Pharr, gesturing toward a dozen friends and relatives gathered in the courtroom hallway, including Jackson’s pregnant girlfriend.

Canton woman found in Cove home under renovation

STAMFORD-Police booked a Canton woman wanted by Hartford authorities for skipping her court dates on burglary charges after they found her in a Cove home under renovation.

Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said a Cove Road neighbor called police at about 2 p.m. Monday to report that a window had been broken in a next-door home that has been under construction for over 10 months.

 

Stamford begins Christmas tree pickup

Residents can begin placing their trees on the curb this week, while careful not to block traffic or create a safety hazard.

Residents can also bring their trees, wreaths and holiday vegetation to the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center at 130 Magee Ave.
