NY baby shower murder fugitive extradited from Stamford

STAMFORD — A baby shower murder fugitive who was apprehended at his girlfriend’s West Side home last week has been extradited back to New York, police said.

According to the New York Daily News, 39-year-old Hilario Cortez-Vidals was killed after being shot in the face while attending an after-party for a baby shower at a Brooklyn catering hall on New Year’s Eve.

 

Police charge man in Bethel stabbing

Mitchell Gleason, of Ives Street, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, among other charges, after police said he was found hiding along Elizabeth Street in the downtown at around 9:30 p.m. Gleason ran from police after he was discovered but was quickly taken into custody.

Police said Gleason attempted to throw away a small amount of marijuana during the ordeal and is also facing a drug possession charge.

 

Stamford boy, 14, returned to residental facility with pistol

Sgt. Simon Blanc said Stamford police were contacted on Wednesday by State police asking them to get to the bottom of how the 14-year-old boy ended up returning to Litchfield, where he is incarcerated, with a bag full of snacks which also contained a 9 mm pistol on Tuesday.

According to the woman’s statement, she said her husband “forgot” that he left the weapon in the bag, which was then given to the teen for his return trip to Litchfield.

 

Police investigate whether Stamford boy was hurt on school bus

STAMFORD — Authorities are investigating whether a 9-year-old boy was hurt on a school bus after he returned home Tuesday with several red marks on his back.

 

Teen remorseful over Stamford killing

Hall, who was 15 when the incident occurred, was charged as an adult with murder and faced up to 60 years in prison if convicted at trial.

In jail since his arrest days after the murder, Hall rejected a plea deal last summer for a 25-year prison sentence followed by 15 years of special parole.

The teen killed Muralles after they bumped into each other outside the Bedford Street fast-food restaurant on March 11, 2015.

The victim bumped into Hall and co-defendant James McLamb, 24, that night and accidentally spilled coffee on the teen, according to police.

Woman unhurt after attempted slashing at Stamford park

STAMFORD — A 24-year-old city woman escaped injury Tuesday after a man lunged at her with a knife near several children at Scalzi Park, police said.

Grijalba, 33, of East Main Street, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a dangerous weapon, attempt to commit second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

Grijalba was held on $5,000 bond for those charges and another $5,000 for failure to appear in court, which stems from a 2016 criminal trespass charge.

 

PD: Stamford woman evaded crash, made up fictitious one

STAMFORD — A city woman who evaded a crash Monday afternoon called police at night to report a fictitious hit-and-run in an apparent attempt to explain the damage to the car, authorities said.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said the woman did not stop, but the victim called police and gave them a description of the woman and her license plate number.

Blanc said police realized her story was flawed when they noticed the car she said was struck was also registered to the Noble Street home from the earlier crash.

 

Serious crash closes Route 25 in Newtown

NEWTOWN — Newtown Police said Route 25 was expected to be closed overnight after a serious crash.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday in front of Sand Hill Plaza, on South Main Street between Brian Lane and Cold Spring Road, police said.

The street was expected to be closed for at least eight hours, police said.

Injuries were reported, but police provided no further details.

It is not known if the closure will affect the Wednesday morning commute.
