Three get their sergeants badges in Stamford

STAMFORD-In a ceremony that nearly filled the Government Center lobby Monday morning, officers Brendan Phillips, Sean Boeger and Brian Butler were promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Public Safety Director Ted Jankowski told the three to provide for the well-being and safety of the officers under their command.

Residents hold protest against town’s herbicide plan for Candlewood Lake

The recently formed group, calling themselves “Candlewood Voices,” gathered outside the New Fairfield senior center with protest signs asking selectmen to continue to use carp instead of herbicides to treat the invasive Eurasian milfoil in the lake.

After Thursday’s rally, the residents attended the selectmen’s meeting and spoke for about 40 minutes of the public comment period against the herbicide plan.

 

Danbury Police charge two men with robbery and assault

During the investigation, the victim’s fiancee received several threatening messages on her phone after the victim contacted police, according to a press release from the Danbury Police Department. Belin and Lee are charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree threatening, sixth-degree larceny and a count of conspiracy to commit for each charge.

 

Burglar caught after case across Mianus River in Stamford

STAMFORD-A patrol lieutenant helped catch one of two juvenile burglary suspects by chasing one of the boys across the frigid Mianus River shortly after noon Friday.

Lt. Tom Scanlon could be heard on the radio calling out that one of the suspects was escaping by running across the Mianus River behind Highline Trail in North Stamford just a few minutes after 12:00 p.m. A few moments later he reported the suspect in custody.

 

Dump truck takes down telephone pole on West Side

STAMFORD-Police and firefighters are responding to an accident where a dump truck struck a car and took down a telephone pole.

Police are reporting that there are wires all over the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and West Street.

It is not known if there was anyone injured in the accident that was reported at 3:12 p.m. Friday.

Police are closing down the intersection and trying to keep the public away from the energized wires. Three power poles are reported to be toppled by the accident.

Wrong-way driver in stolen car chased into Greenwich

STAMFORD-A city teen behind the wheel of a stolen car spotted going the wrong way on Bedford Street past the police headquarters was apprehended after a pursuit took police into Greenwich early Friday morning.

Two men struck in crosswalk at Springdale RR station in Stamford

STAMFORD-Two city men were struck by a pickup truck while crossing Hope Street in a crosswalk next to the Springdale Railroad Station Thursday night, police said.

Through an interpreter, the two told police they checked the southbound lane before stepping off the curb and saw nothing.

 

Fire engulfs Newtown workshop

The exterior of the shed was already full engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Halstead said, but the homeowner was able to tell authorities where the fuel tanks were located inside the shed so they could be removed before catching on fire.

“We were able to pull most of the equipment out of the shed,” he said, adding that a drill press, lathes, saws and other tools were located in the wood shop.
