Real Wheels: One historic hearse

LIMA — Chiles-Laman Funeral Home owns this 1938 LaSalle Hearse. It has owned it since 1959. Bob Laman brought it to the Westgate Charity Car Show.
The funeral home donated it to the Allen County Museum. It was given back to the funeral home approximately 20 years ago, and the funeral home had it restored. At one point it was restored with the original mohair upholstery, and then the moths ate the upholstery. It was re-done after that, not with mohair though.

Northwest Ohio Rib Off provides treat for the senses

MAUMEE (TNS) — Friday night Rib Off celebrators roared and raised their bones as Lee Brice took the stage.
“Who is ready to sing with us?” Mr. Brice shouted as he prepared to perform.
It was after 9 p.m. — an hour beyond when the country music star was scheduled to take the stage. But fans standing away from the stage in the standing-room only crowd didn’t care, even those who staked out their spots long before Mr. Brice appeared.

Ohio State finds enough dorm rooms for its 7,000 sophomores

COLUMBUS (TNS) — In the school’s second year of requiring sophomores to live on campus, Ohio State University officials say there is enough room for every student who has requested to live in a dorm.
And though the 7,000 sophomores are campus-bound, local leaders hope the surrounding University District is becoming a place for everyone, too.
As the sophomore rule continues, University District leaders are beginning to see more non-student tenants filling rental properties in the area.

Manning looking forward to playing Browns

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — For the past two seasons, Eli Manning has felt a little awkward heading into the New York Giants’ preseason opener.
It has nothing to do with the football. It’s the lack of it that has bothered the two-time Super Bowl MVP.
Coach Ben McAdoo has sat Manning in the preseason opener the past two seasons and he has been forced to watch Ryan Nassib get the start last year and Josh Johnson get the call this year.
