3 men sent to prison Monday

LIMA — A Lima man was sentenced to 34 years in prison Monday for trafficking in marijuana and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

 

More time granted in vehicular homicide case

LIMA — Defense attorneys for a Michigan man accused of aggravated vehicular homicide in a 2016 crash that claimed the life of his friend will have until Sept. 1 to file written closing arguments surrounding motions filed to suppress evidence in the case.
Zackery Brown, 22, of Waterford, Michigan, and a former student at the University of Northwest Ohio, is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of the two.

 

Ohio governor not backing bailout for state’s nuclear plants

OREGON (AP) — Gov. John Kasich said Monday that he can’t see supporting a proposed financial rescue that FirstEnergy Corp. maintains is needed to keep alive the state’s two aging nuclear plants.
He said it’s up to the utility to figure out how to keep its nuclear plants operating without a state-approved bailout.
Akron-based FirstEnergy wants Ohio lawmakers to sign off on an electricity rate increase for its customers to save the Davis-Besse and Perry plants, which sit along Lake Erie and produce 14 percent of the state’s electricity.

Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority holds board meeting

LIMA — The Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority will hold a regular board meeting at noon Tuesday at the Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority, 600 S. Main St., Lima.
After the meeting there may be closed executive session to discuss matters excepted under the Ohio Revised Code, Section 121.111.

 

Lima Memorial women’s center receives accreditation

LIMA — Lima Memorial Health System’s Women’s Health Center has earned a three-year recommendation for stereotactic biopsy from the American College of Radiology. Maintaining this accreditation preserves the center’s status as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, being fully accredited in mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and stereotactic biopsy.

How many of you are frustrated advice columnists? When reading the newspaper, would your eyes zoom in on the headline, “On the hook for someone else’s wedding” by Annie Lane? In case you aren’t up-to-date, Annie Lane is today’s version of Ann Landers.
For decades, folks relied on the advice of Ann Landers, whose real name was Esther (Eppie) Lederer. Her pen name became a household staple after Lederer began authoring the already established Ann Landers’ column for The Chicago Sun-Times in 1955. In 1987, she joined the Chicago Tribune staff.
