Judge in case of buried newborn upholds gag order

LEBANON (AP) — The judge in the case of an 18-year-old charged in the death of her newborn buried at her home is continuing to bar attorneys and others in the case from commenting publicly outside court.
The Warren County judge ruled Friday that the gag order he issued earlier in the case against 18-year-old Brooke Skylar Richardson will remain in place.
Richardson has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in the May death of the infant.
The remains were found July 14 in Carlisle, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Cincinnati.

The stars came out in the middle of the day, zoo animals ran in agitated circles, crickets chirped, birds fell silent and a chilly darkness settled upon the land Monday as the U.S. witnessed its first full-blown, coast-to-coast solar eclipse since World War I.
Millions of Americans gazed in wonder at the cosmic spectacle, with the best seats along the so-called path of totality that raced 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometers) across the continent from Oregon to South Carolina.

LIMA — An afternoon rain couldn’t dampen spirits at the Allen County Fair on Monday.
With the sheer excitement of it being fair season — plus a solar eclipse on the agenda — fairgoers took full advantage of the experience.
Those with solar eclipse glasses watched the skies and those without watched their kids ride all the rides. Youth Day offered discounts, and there were plenty of families in attendance.

 

Man who shot judge was father of player convicted of rape

COLUMBUS (AP) — A man who shot and wounded a judge outside a county courthouse before being gunned down by a probation officer was the father of a high school football player who was convicted of rape in 2013, authorities said Monday.
Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. was shot Monday morning near the courthouse in Steubenville, across the Ohio River from West Virginia’s northern panhandle and just west of Pittsburgh.

Rockabilly pioneer Sonny Burgess dies in Arkansas at 88

NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) — Albert “Sonny” Burgess, who was an early pioneer of what became known as rockabilly music, has died in his native Arkansas.
The Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport says Burgess died Friday in Little Rock. He was 88.
Burgess was among a group of singers in the mid-1950s who mixed rhythm and blues with country and western music. The sound became known as rockabilly and included Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.

 

Ex-Kosovo PM Bajram Rexhepi dies after a stroke at 63

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Bajram Rexhepi, Kosovo’s former prime minister and interior minister, has died in a hospital in Turkey following a stroke. He was 63.
Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said in a statement that Rexhepi, a surgeon by profession, passed away in the early hours Monday following months of battling a grave illness. He was taken to Turkey after a stroke in April.
