Contestant, a pilot, flies herself to Miss America contest

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — For a while at least, Miss Vermont was far above the competition to become the next Miss America.
A licensed pilot, Erin Connor flew herself from Burlington, Vermont, to an airport just outside Atlantic City on Sunday, three days before the contestants were to meet the public in the annual welcoming ceremony on the famous Boardwalk.
“I like to make an entrance anywhere I go,” she said.

 

Putnam County Republicans bring Mary Taylor to candidate event

OTTAWA — The Putnam County Ohio Republican Party is hosting a “Get to Know the Candidates” event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Putnam County Education Services Center, 124 Putnam Parkway, Ottawa. Tickets are $15 per person.
Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor will be present at the event. She will give a 15- to 20-minute speech.

 

9/11 911 operator to address Lima Rotary Club on Sept. 11

LIMA — A 911 operator for 9/11, Lt. Andy Gree, will address the Lima Rotary Club during a meeting at noon Monday, Sept. 11 in the North Hall of the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center, Lima.

 

Delphos man killed in Medina County accident

MEDINA — A Delphos man was killed in a crash involving three vehicles Monday night in Medina, the Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Matthew J. Krendl, 54, was stopped in the right lane of Interstate 71 when a Freightliner, driven by 45-year-old Petrsor Adrian, of Quebec, Canada, crashed into his Toyota 4 Runner.
Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the road, went over an embankment and continued into a wooded area. Debris from the crash struck a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 29-year-old Bryan Smith, of Wooster.

 

Toledo man with outstanding warrant arrested in Auglaize County

WAPAKONETA — A Toledo man with an outstanding warrant was arrested in Auglaize County early Monday morning.
At approximately 2:58 a.m. Monday, deputies with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Buckland Holden Road near Interstate 75 on a report of a suspicious person. The caller reported a man standing on the overpass waving his arms. Upon arrival, deputies located an abandoned vehicle and a man walking in a ditch in the area of the interstate.

PLC Health Clinic holding Walk for Life

VAN WERT — PLC Health Clinic in Van Wert is hosting a Walk for Life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the PLC Health Clinic, 215 N. Market St., Van Wert.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., with the walk following. Tours of the new health facility will take place that day as well.
The clinic will be providing free pregnancy testing, limited obstetric ultrasound and STD testing for women and men.
