LIMA — When thinking about our places of worship, it is only natural that most of us think first and foremost about the pastors, priests, rabbis and imams who lead them. But as Paul noted in his first letter to the Corinthians, every congregation is a body made up of many parts.
“If the whole body were an eye,” he wrote, “where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be?”

 

Stewart Road to close Thursday

LIMA — Stewart Road between Bluelick Road and state Route 81 will close from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Allen County Engineer’s Office.
The closure will allow for chip sealing, and emergency vehicles and school transportation will retain access.

Putnam County employers asked to complete survey on transportation issues

OTTAWA — The Putnam County Council on Aging is asking area employers to complete a survey regarding transportation issues.
The Council on Aging facilitates the Putnam County Transportation Committee, which includes agencies and organizations working together to improve transportation options for residents and employers. The organizations are seeking help in identifying existing difficulties that employees may have getting to work, and/or challenges related to transportation barriers that companies have experienced in hiring or maintaining a workforce.

 

After big win, Lima Senior is ready for Eastmoor

LIMA — Going into the opener against rival Middletown, Lima Senior, despite 21 seniors, still had some unanswered questions. But a spectacular second half that saw the Spartans, down 14-13, rally to shut out the Middies 21-0 for a 34-14 victory has Lima Senior head coach Andre Griffin confident things are moving in the right direction.

 

Superior Credit Union to open new office in Coldwater

COLDWATER — Superior Credit Union is constructing a new office, ATM and drive-thru in Coldwater. The full-service office will be located at 950 W. Main St.
Superior already has a branch in Coldwater, located at 300 W. Sycamore St., as a result of its recent merger with First Choice Credit Union. The new office will include a drive-up ATM, which is not available at the current facility.
The office will be managed by current Coldwater manager Kerri Lauber, who has more than 20 years of experience in banking, as well as consumer and mortgage lending.

 

Lima Stadium Park will close for football games

LIMA — Fans of Lima high school football will not be able to watch games at Spartan Stadium for free from Lima Stadium Park.
Lima Parks and Recreation Director Ric Stolly announced Wednesday that the park will be closed to the public on Friday and Saturday nights for football games.

 

Red Cross blood donation opportunity in Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — There will be a blood donation opportunity from 12 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department/Franklin Township Building, 6805 state Route 219, Montezuma.

 

Gibbons joins GOP race for U.S. Senate

SIDNEY — Mike Gibbons, 69, of Fairview Park, will challenge Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel in the 2018 Republican primary for the chance to go up against incumbent U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Gibbons was in Sidney on Tuesday to talk with the Sidney Daily News about his campaign.
“One problem is name recognition. I have the next nine months to change that,” he said.

 

St. Marys, Ottawa-Glandorf face off in key WBL matchup

What a crazy first week for the Western Buckeye League.
The three teams that shared the league title last year all fell and the teams that were at the bottom of the league standings won.
Ottawa-Glandorf and St. Marys square off this week. This game is not just about who might vie for the title but it takes on a bigger meaning for two teams trying to recover from losses.
For St. Marys, the Roughriders lost a back-and-forth battle to Sidney, 39-32.

 

Lawmaker, Consumer chief spar over ‘political ambitions’

COLUMBUS (AP) — A fierce Republican critic of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is pressing the agency’s Democratic chief to announce his intentions in next year’s race for Ohio governor.
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, wrote to Richard Cordray on Monday urging him to reveal by Wednesday whether he planned to resign as head of the agency. Hensarling also sought Cordray’s “categorical denial” that political considerations are influencing his federal work.
