Massachusetts man indicted in slaying of 4 in home

GROTON  — A 23-year-old man accused of fatally beating his mother, grandparents and their caretaker with a baseball bat at a home in Massachusetts has been indicted by a grand jury on four counts of murder.The Middlesex District Attorney's office says Orion Krause, of Rockport, Maine, will be arraigned in Superior Court on Wednesday. A judge had previously found him competent to stand trial for the killings in Groton last September.Krause was a recent graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. He pleaded not guilty at his earlier arraignment in district court.

 

Police find body in Easton woods

The body of a deceased man was found under a tarp in the woods off Bay Road in Easton this afternoon.Authorities said the body was found by a maroon moped that was partially exposed under a camouflage tarp.The Massachusetts Rescue and Recovery K-9 Unit was in the area at the time looking for Easton resident Gregory Glavin, who was last scene leaving a friend's house on a maroon moped in North Attleboro on February 17, according to a release from the Easton police department.

 

Fans shrug off chilly temps at Red Sox home opener

Droves of loyal fans donned parkas and ski hats to support the Red Sox at their 117th home opener today, where temperatures only reached the low 40s and a brutal wind cut through the Fenway Park bleachers.Despite the wintry weather, fans were thrilled to welcome the Sox home, who got a red hot start to the season on the road.“It’s wonderful, it’s a holiday,” said fan Marilyn Deedy of Princeton. “Once Fenway opens, Spring has sprung.”The Sox entered Fenway Opening Day with a 5-1 record, setting expectations high for fans.

 

IRS agent pleads not guilty to rape, assault

Investigators found saliva on the service weapon of an Internal Revenue Service agent a student-intern claims he shoved in her mouth while he raped and choked her in a parked car after a night of heavy drinking, prosecutors said today.James R. Clarke, 44, was released on personal recognizance by assistant Suffolk Superior Court Clerk-Magistrate Edward J. Curley and ordered not to leave Massachusetts after pleading not guilty this morning to six indictments, including aggravated rape, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and strangulation.

 

Man charged in 1998 child rape seeks to avoid trial in fall

SALEM, Mass. — A former school bus driver charged with kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old special needs student nearly 20 years ago is scheduled to stand trial this fall.A lawyer for 44-year-old Henry Gonzalez said in court Wednesday that he and prosecutors are discussing a deal that could resolve the case before trial in September. The Salem News reports that Gonzalez was previously scheduled to stand trial in 2000 before he disappeared.Prosecutors say they discovered the former bus driver was living in the Dominican Republic nearly a decade later.

 

Shooter report at Massachusetts Air Force base a false alarm

BEDFORD, Mass. — A report of an active shooter at a Massachusetts Air Force base that prompted a brief lockdown and shelter-in-place order turned out to be a false alarm.A spokeswoman for Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, west of Boston, says the report of a shooter came in to security just after 9 a.m. Thursday.Security personnel investigated and issued the all-clear 16 minutes later.Spokeswoman Patty Welsh says the false alarm was caused when someone misidentified a piece of equipment being used for an indoor display.

 

Police: Man looking for luggage sprays lotion at trooper

BOSTON — Prosecutors say a Rhode Island man looking for his lost luggage at Boston's Logan International Airport punched, spat on, and sprayed hand lotion in a state trooper's face.Kevin Luczak was granted $500 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday to charges including assault and battery on a police officer.Authorities say the 28-year-old Narragansett, Rhode Island, man walked into a baggage office to make a claim about his at bag at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.The trooper had been notified by the flight crew about an on-board incident involving Luczak.

 

2 shot, 2 arrested, drugs found in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. — Police in Holyoke say two people were taken to the hospital and two others were arrested after late-night shooting in the city.Lt. Jim Albert tells WWLP-TV that officers were called to a Walnut Street apartment building at about 10 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a shooting. Two men were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, including one who was in serious condition. Their names were not released.Albert says police searched the building and found a significant amount of cocaine, heroin, and ammunition.

 

Worcester man pleads guilty to forcing woman into prostitution

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to forcing a woman into prostitution and threatening her child if she went to law enforcement.Federal prosecutors in Connecticut say 25-year-old Mohamed "Vic" Abdi, of Worcester, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in New Haven to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion.He faces up to life in prison at sentencing scheduled for July 27.
