Workforce Solutions at Northeast State offers Lean Leadership workshop series

BLOUNTVILLE — The Workforce Solutions team at Northeast State Community College presents the Lean Leadership system training course this fall. The course features eight workshop sessions beginning Sept. 27 and continuing through Nov. 22. All class sessions will meet at Wayne G. Basler Library, Room L226, on the Blountville campus.
Each workshop is $300 per person. The workshops can be taken individually.
Lean is a systematic approach to eliminating waste and creating flow within an organization to improve overall customer value.

 

Hal Lynn Hunt

Hal Lynn Hunt, age 69, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 22, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born to the late Vernon and Laura (Bishop) Hunt on March 22, 1950. He was a dedicated employee of AGC from where he retired. Hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends were his favorite past times. Above all, he loved the Lord. Through his example, we learn to truly appreciate God’s creation and to cherish life. He was a member of Slate Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

 

Charles Leonard

KINGSPORT - Charlie C. Leonard, 79, Kingsport, has gone to play on that All Star Team in Heaven.
The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Rock Springs United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Pastor Ronnie Ledford and Rev. Carole Martin officiating.

Sheila Rose Morris

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Sheila Rose Morris went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2019, at Hospice House in Bristol, TN.  She was born in Kingsport, TN on March 1, 1938.  She worked at Tri-City Airport Commission for many years.  She resided in Big Stone Gap, VA with her beloved husband, Charlie Morris.  She was a member of East Stone Gap Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren we

 

Dr. Kay Gibson Matlock

JONESVILLE, VA - Dr. Kay Gibson Matlock, age 70, of Jonesville, VA, entered into Heaven on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Kay was born on August 25, 1948 in Kingsport, TN to the Late James Leonard Gibson and Pearl L. Gibson.
Kay retired from Stone Mountain Health Services after 25 years of service. She received her RN degree from East Tennessee State University, her Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration at St.

 

Kingsport police still searching for city man

KINGSPORT – The Kingsport Police Department is still looking for a 47-year-old Kingsport man who has been missing since December of last year.
The missing man is Ronnie D. Herring, first reported as a missing person to the KPD in May by his sister.
According to the police, the sister said no one in her family had seen or heard from Herring since December 2018, noting that her brother is currently homeless, but typically frequents the downtown and Lynn Garden areas of the city.
The sister also said her brother may have traveled to Miami, Florida.

 

Power outage closes South, Rock Springs, but football game a go

KINGPSORT — Sullivan South High and Rock Springs Elementary schools dismissed at 9:30 a.m. Friday because of a power outage, but Friday night’s season-opening football game of Daniel Boone High at South is going on as scheduled.
Sullivan County Director of Schools David Cox said the outage occurred because of a lightning strike to a transformer about 6:10 a.m., after buses already were on the road to school. Students arrived at both schools, he said, and for a while AEP officials told school officials they thought the power could be restored.

 

How would a Bristol casino project impact the TRI?

BLOUNTVILLE — Tri-Cities Airport Authority commissioners listened to a pitch for the proposed Bristol Resort and Casino project on Thursday.
"We are diving into the deep end of the pool of the hospitality business," United Company President and Chief Operating Officer Martin Kent told commissioners. " ... We saw an opportunity as you probably have heard, Jim McGlothlin, my CEO, working with Clyde Stacy, an opportunity to rehabilitate the Bristol Mall. It's outside the box."
Kent pointed out less than one fifth of the 500,000-square-foot facility would house the casino.
