BIG STONE GAP, VA - Nancy Jo Tabor Dorton, 72, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2019 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, Va.
Nancy was a member of Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church in the Crackers Neck Community.

HILTONS, VA - Gay B. Baker, 91, of Hiltons went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mount Carmel mayor calls for BMA to work together after spat

MOUNT CARMEL — Mayor Chris Jones called for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to work together and put their differences aside during Thursday's meeting, but not before two aldermen verbally jabbed each other in an ugly exchange.
The incident began after Alderman Pat Stilwell accused Alderman Jim Gilliam of calling her and the other two female board members “witches.”
At the end of each monthly BMA meeting, the city administrator, city attorney, aldermen and mayor are each invited to make comments on any subject.

 

Jealous ex arrested in Kingsport road rage wreck

KINGSPORT — A city resident who spotted his former girlfriend with another man has been arrested after allegedly ramming their car up to 10 times along Stone Drive, eventually disabling both vehicles.
Michael C. Helton, 28, of Lemay Drive, is charged with felony reckless endangerment and aggravated assault.

 

Hawkins Commission approves budget, postpones vote on $5 wheel tax reduction

ROGERSVILLE – The Hawkins County Commission approved its 2019-20 budget Monday evening by a vote of 17-3, but a resolution reducing the wheel tax by $5 was delayed due to its sponsor being ill.
The $5 wheel tax reduction was proposed by Commissioner Rick Brewer and approved earlier this month by the Budget Committee by a vote of 4-3.
Commission Chairman Mike Herrell told commissioners on Monday he’d been contacted by Brewer, who asked that the resolution be pulled from Monday’s agenda. Herrell noted that Brewer is currently experiencing health problems.

BLOUNTVILLE - Laurel Rae Stone, 78 of Blountville, TN passed away at her home on Monday, August 26, 2019.
She was born November 27, 1940 to the late Rae & Gilbert Goodsell in Kewanee, Ill.
Laurel was preceded in death by her two brothers, Larry and Charles.

 

Norma Joyce Bacon-Davick

FALL BRANCH - Norma Joyce Bacon-Davick, 97, passed away peacefully at her residence on the morning of August 26, 2019.
She was born on December 8, 1921 to the late Nell and John Baskette.
She had retired from JC Penny at the Fort Henry Mall where she worked as a Fashion Merchandiser. Norma led an active life by being involved in many different groups.  She volunteered at Holston Valley Medical Center, was a member of the Aida Baxter Circle, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Community Outreach Program at Fall Branch United Methodist Church, where she was also a member.

 

William Darrell "Bubba" Long

BIG STONE GAP, VA - William Darrell “Bubba” Long 54, passed away peacefully on Monday (August 26th 2019) at Johnson City Medical Center.
He attended Appalachia High School. He then took a job with Queen City Railroad in Knoxville TN where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Ray Long and Retha Jane Long.

GATE CITY, VA - Carl W. Newman, age 99 3/4, of Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at his residence after a period of declining health.
