Cops: Stamford career burglar faces new charges

STAMFORD — An experienced burglar already accused of breaking into several downtown offices last year was arrested Monday after an investigation linked him to another 2016 incident, police said.

Butler was brought Monday from the Bridgeport Correctional Center, where he’s being held on a combined $325,000 bond, and charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.

 

ConnCon 2017: Games convention returns to Stamford

STAMFORD — ConnCon, a bi-annual tabletop and role playing game convention, returned to the Stamford Sheraton last weekend. The convention has been held in Stamford for 29 years. The three-day conference featured four-hour game sessions for dozens of games.

 

PD: Man pushed Stamford cop during traffic stop

STAMFORD — An intoxicated driver was charged with nine different offenses after trying to resist an arrest following a traffic stop early Saturday morning, police said.

Jamar Jones, 31, of Bridgeport, is accused of pushing and shoving a Stamford police officer after a traffic stop about 2 a.m.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, first-degree threatening, reckless driving, failure to obey stop sign and other traffic violations.

No one appeared to be injured.

UConn-Stamford treats vandalism as bias incident

A flyer stating the rules of a billiard club tournament was discovered defaced on March 9 with the letters KKK, referring to the hate group the Klu Klux Klan, according to the university.

Terrence Cheng, director of UConn-Stamford, said in the email that UConn police and the university’s Office of Community Standards were notified, and cited a Bias Response Protocol developed in 2015.

 

Cops: Stamford man threatened another with knife

STAMFORD — A Waterside man faces criminal charges after threatening another with a knife over the weekend, authorities said.

Gamez-Vasquez, 34, was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

 

Two Stamford natives honored for St. Patrick’s Day

The two Stamford natives were recognized by the men’s and women’s divisions of the group at the Stamford Government Center Friday.

The former clerk attended Stamford public schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy.

Cullen, a Stamford native, was educated at St. Cecilia’s and Stamford Catholic High School before earning degrees from Boston College and Fairfield University.

 

Dessert tasting benefits Stamford homeless shelter’s young adults

STAMFORD — An upcoming fundraiser will benefit a city homeless shelter’s new program for young adults.

“This spectacular community tradition offers the chance to indulge in incredible desserts and chocolate from the area’s finest artisanal bakeries and chocolatiers,” the organization said in a news release.

Pacific House, a Stamford nonprofit that operates an emergency shelter for men, began a program last year in response to the significant number of young adults, ages 18 to 24, at the facility.

Emergency officials said the fire broke out at around 6:40 p.m.

 

Police: Man hit another car while driving under the influence in Danbury

DANBURY—A man was taken to Danbury Hospital Saturday morning after he drove into another car while drunk, police said.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, police responded to an accident at the intersection of Division Street and Park Ave. Raimundo Dossantos hit a car near West Street and continued driving down Division Street before hitting the garage at 45 Division Street and stopping, police said.

Dossantos was charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving, operating under the influence and improper passing. He was taken to Danbury Hospital after accident.

 

Freed from snowbank, woman flees police

By that time, three local police cruisers and a state police car followed the woman onto I-84, “but were not pursuing the vehicle,” a Connecticut State Police press release said. According to police reports, the boy lives in Redding while Bradley lives on Vista Avenue in Danbury. According to Connecticut court records, Bradley has no history of criminal convictions and no pending criminal charges.
