ATLANTA — The government urged health officials around the country Friday to get ready now in case there are outbreaks of the mosquito-borne Zika virus in the U.S. this summer.
A Zika epidemic has been sweeping through Latin America and the Caribbean, and officials think it’s likely some small clusters of Zika will occur in the U.S. when mosquito numbers boom.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An economic development group is seeking to be part of South Carolina’s lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Energy for the agency’s failure to meet a Jan. 1 nuclear fuel deadline.
South Carolina Alliance filed papers in federal court Thursday seeking to intervene. The group is a nonprofit that represents impoverished areas near the Savannah River Site and says it will be affected financially if the mixed-oxide project is completed or not.
